Aggressive cat?

My wife and I have a cat, he is pretty aggessive against her and her 4 year old son. He will jump at him when he walks by and will sometimes attack my wifes legs aswell. He doesnt do that to me because he learned his lesson before. But I also have a 2 month old baby boy and he doesnt do anything to him AT ALL! He will jump on the bed and not even be interested in him and will just fall asleep on the other side of the bed. He acts like my son isnt even there even when he is crying his head off. What would cause a cat to be aggressive to other people that he usually sees? like my wife?
Answers:
Has he been hurt by the 4 year old? Little kids often grab and hurt cats if they haven't been shown how to approach them. Cats are impressionable and one bad incident may cause him to be in the, 'the best defense is a good offense' mode now.
He could be experiencing pain and has managed to associate that with your wife and her son. He could also be stressed from the new baby being in the house as well. His aggression might smply be directed at what he thinks is the cause of his stress.
At any rate, if your cat has a clean bill of health, you can eliminate possible causes of aggression by:
- providing him quiet and safe places to sleep away from the hubub. Somewhere up high is always good for cats.
- give him plenty of exercise with toys (not laser mice which may only increase his agitation)
- note whether his 'attacks' are predictable, such as when someone walks in front of a specific door or past a bed. Cats enjoy ambushing ankles and the easiest way to stop it is to make it physically impossible (close the door) for him to do so until the habit goes away.
- show the 4 year old and the cat that they can get along by reintroducing them quietly and with treats and toys.
I think he's trying to establish the 'pecking order' and doesn't see the youngest as a threat yet.
I think your wife and her son will need to show who's ahead of him. They may need to walk around with spray bottles until this has been settled. It won't just go away.
Well im 14 and i have 18 cats with my mom of course and when my cat did that we took him to a vet and they gave him a rabie shot and he calmed down or u can pet him and when ur wife come in keep petting him and let her pet him then u leave them alone and tell her to keep petting him and then he will notice that she is a nice cat person or he could have a hurt body part my bro cat attacked only me and we found out he was hurt hope this help
ya kno it could be that hes jealous of your son because he gets more attention
You can teach your cat to behave. Everytime he does something wrong tap his nose with 2 fingers and say NO loud and clear.
Well my cats use to be very aggressive but i gave them love and let them wander around and let them do whatever they want except for scratching the couch! Let them be free and love them and they will love you back!
Get him toys to play with. Cats love to climb so get him a cat tower so he can climb and look out the windows. You may even want to consider getting a second cat to keep him company since cats are such social animals. Make sure if that is your choice to introduce them properly. Not right off the hop but keep them separated for about 3-4 weeks so they can get used to the smells. Cats will also slow down a lot when fixed.
Maybe he needs to get spayed and neutered.
