6 weeks kitten?

is it ok the kitten eat the adult food
Answers:
Nutritionally it may be lacking in what the kitten needs but kittens certainly can eat adult food by 6 weeks old
I'm sure there's no major problem with it, but it's just that food made specifically for kittens would be easier to digest I'd imagine.
Might need to put some water in it to make it easy for it to eat.
Hi, sometimes if you have other cat's you cannot stop kittens from eating the older cat's food. Kitten food is better as it is high in protein, but i must tell you that kitten food is not good for adult cat's as their liver cannot take all the protein.
Feed it kitten food and moisten the food (assuming it's box food, not canned) for the 1st 6 months. Your vet (hint, hint) will tell you when to switch to adult cat food. (Probably at about 12-18 months.)
yes it's fine.they can actually eat solids from about three weeks.
It won't hurt them but kittens need the calories and nutrients in kitten food. Kitten food, good quality brand, is ideal.
That means the mother is trying to ween them and the kitten needs to eat kitten food. The adult food does not have all the vitamin that kitten food has. So try to get some kitten food.Best of Luck...
they would be fine on adult food.. but if they are sick or have other problems its best to put them on kitten food.
no! its teeth willl rot. and its bad for the stoumach
shouldn't even be away from its mother yet
As there are so many foods made specifically for kittens, I would stick with those for the majority of feeds but you could also introduce adult food gradually.
It's okay for it to eat adult food, but better for it to eat kitten food as it's designed for kittens and gives them the best start in life with added vitmains and such. It's also smaller chunks so they can eat them better.
Hope this helps.

6 week old kitten!?

My kids made those puppy dog eyes and i got them a 6 week old kitten. Does anyone have any advise of what i should do, and what things i should buy? i know food and kitty litter and stuff like that but anything im forgetting?:
Answers:
The essentials are food, water, litter, and litter box. Make sure to always have plenty of water available. Feed your kitten only kitten food, at that young age preferably moist food and gradually add dry food as it gets older.
Toys you can make or use items from around the house, a waded up paper, shoe lace, etc.
Cat nip is pretty much like drugs for kitties so that's up to you.
You can provide a bed but most likely it will sleep where it wants and it won't necessarily be the bed you bought.
Check out the listed web site for more items you might need and some great free tips on cat care.
Buy her toys, they love toys. I have a 8 week old kitty and she just loves to play. You don't even have to buy her toys if you just get paper and roll it up into a ball and let her play it will entertain her for a long time.. well at least it does my kitty. Well enjoy your kitty
eyedropper for the replacement milk. its only 6 weeks old so it needs cat milk, so get replacement milk no cow milk. dont get clumping litter! anddd get kitten food, but when you feed it to the kitty, add some water to the food, and let it sit before you feed the kitty the food, so the food will be softer. some toys, non toxic, NO YARN OR STRING! my kitty almost choked to death because she got all tangled up with the yarn.
Well maybe litter deodorizer. Try getting him a food bowl. You should be good.
at 6 weeks it should be eating out of a dish, so can food at first or hard kitten food water or milk down wet the hard food for his teeth are not that strong yet no matter what he bitters and it hurts have fun with him%26#92; her hold, pet, etc. just have fun.
Buy some catnip mice. Especially the ones that make noises like little maraccas. (My cats go crazy over those.)
A cat bed is not necessarily needed... many cats will sleep right on the bed with you (or your kids).
Try getting some kitty treats and see how the kitten likes them. Some wet food to stir in with the dry isn't a bad idea either. (I recommend Fancy Feast.)
You can also get some Lysine. It can be found in your vitamin aisle in the supermarket. The kitty shelter I used to volunteer at would put Lysine in the wet cat food, in order to boost the cats' immune systems when they developed cat colds. (A half a Lysine for a kitten, a full one for a cat per day. The capsules easily pull apart.)
One of the best toys for cats I have ever discovered are shoelaces. You hold one end and throw it out towards the cat, who will try to attack it.
There are also plastic balls with bells in them, balls that light up when they bounce on the floor, big feathers...
First off, in my humble opinion, 6 weeks old is too young to be separated from it's mother as at 8 weeks, they begin to learn socialization. 10 weeks is about right for separation and 12 is perfect. But what is done is done. First off, this kitten should be given a milk replacement as it's too young to be without some form of mother's milk. I've used a homemade version for my kittens called kitty glop - the formula is simple and follows:
2 pkgs plain gelatin
2 c. Water
Boil together and cool
Add:
2 c. goats milk
2 T. mayonnaise
4 T. yogurt
4 egg yolks
2 t. karo syrup
You can then add any vitamins or ?? to the mix to suit your cats needs. Good for kittens, pregnant and nursing cats and as a 鈥榟ospital鈥?food for ailing cats.

Since you only have the one kitten I'd cut the formula in half - it jells up into a kind of pudding - keeps for about a week in the fridge and can be warmed up in the microwave in a bowl for the kitten at feeding time. Don't return any of it to the original mix if left over tho! You can also freeze it in ice cube trays and then defrost a cube at a time and it'll keep for about 4 months that way. I would definitely want to add some kitten vitamins or something along that line to the glop or his food - check with your vet for recommendations.
Soft cat food or the glop mixed with a quality dry kitten food will be a good transitional food for the kitten too. Quality food is always better than cheap - look for something that has a first ingredient that is meat or at the least, a meat by product, not grain. Once you have a decent food set up - simple food dishes can be saucers or fancy kitten dishes, the kitten won't care as long as he can get into them %26lt;g>
The litter box should be low enough that he can get into and out of easily so big ones can come later - a low sided one for now is fine. I agree that scoopable litter may not be the best choice to begin with simply because the kitten tends to get his paws messy from eating or whatever and then litter sticks to his paws and he may ingest some of the litter - not a good idea, so look for something that is non-toxic and with large pellets. Because he is so young, you may have to help him learn his litter habits so placing him in the litter box, especially after he eats may help.
Toys are great but one thing I think might be a good idea would be a cuddly bed with a soft, warm toy for him to snuggle with. He's probably used to a brother or sister to cuddle with and he might just enjoy having something to feel like his old warm bed. Get him a fuzzy toy kitty of some kind (or any fuzzy toy) to be his 'pal' and a round sleep bed that is his and place it in a quiet spot for him.
As far as toys - anything that dangles or crinkles and makes noise will do!! Be sure and get his vaccinations as soon as possible. Because he's been removed from his mom so early he will be susceptible to all those nasty germs out there and you want to keep him protected. And of course, to keep him happy and healthy all his life, neuter/spay at the appropriate age later on!! Best of luck with your new family member!

5yr old neutered cat urinating in the house?

We got our cat from the shelter, and he was neutered when we got him. We've had him about 4-5 months. About 2 months ago, we got a female cat, who is not spayed. Just as of the past week or 2, our male has been urinating in the house. Just today he did on a pile of dirty laundry. The 2 cats seemed to get along good when we first got them. They still get along fairly well and play all the time, but why is he urinating in the house? We keep the litter box clean.
The female always uses the litter box, but its been getting more and more regular that he doesn't want to use it.
The litter box is more than big enough for both cats, and we have considered getting a 2nd one, but why all of the sudden would he start now and not do it before when we first got her?
Answers:
Sometimes when cats that are that old pee they're telling you something like somethings wrong with them. I have a cat thats 2 yrs old and spayed and she pees everywhere because she doesn't like the other animals. But it could also mean it has a urinary tract infection aka UTI. so I'd check with a vet because there could be a alot of things going on with the cat. I hope its ok Good Luck!
He may have a urinary infection see Vet
well if thee is a specific place that he keeps peeing then try and put the litter box ther. i had the same problem and that is what we did and it worked out fine, the female cat will find it. if he is peeing all around the house then try and find a common room that he pees in maybe that room makes him comfortable.
I had the same exact problem. I tried multiple litter boxes. I tried everything. I took him to the vet to see if he had an infection. Nothing was wrong. Then the female started doing the same thing. They ruined my carpet. I finally put both of the cats outside and they are fine. Got new carpet. That was about 4 years ago. We live in the country so it just worked out. They tried comming in at first, but now they seem satisfied outside. We still pet them a lot and spent a lot of time with them.
Definately get a second litter box, even if it's a tinfoil roasting pan. Chances are your cat is marking! I know! He's neutered so he shouldn't be doing it. But he is actually spraying and marking. Of course, it's possible that he has a urinary problem like crystals or infection...But I have a cat that sprays when he is unhappy and it makes me crazy! Try Nature's Miracle (from pet stores) as a cleaner to get rid of the smell and then lemongrass essential oil (from health food stores, or some pharmacies) will get rid of the odour. I'm sorry that I don't have any advice on how to correct his marking behaviour.
the cat feels threatened some how. we had the same problem
mind you cats do like personal space.. but i doubt that the new litter tray will work

5 Week Old Kitten?

Well, my best friend adopted this kitten that's estimated to be around 5 weeks old, which makes sense. My own cat was taken from her mother too young, and we adopted her from the shelter around four weeks old. You see, that must have been years ago, when I was in fourth or fifth grade. Now I can't remember all the care that has to go into them. ((I'm a freshman now. Grade 9.))
So, my best friend adopted her to be a 'farm cat', since they own a farm. I refused to let them take her out there and leave her, so I said I'd take her in for a month or so. First question, what's a good age to take them out to the farm? I'm really not sure on this one. I don't even want to let them do that, but there's no other choice, since I can't fully adopt her. We already have three cats, and their throwing a fit right now.
Second question, what's some of the care that goes into having such a young baby?
Answers:
She needs to be fed every three to four hours with mother's milk replacement for kittens from a bottle. For the bottle, you will need to make the hole a about a quarter inch in diameter.
You will need to pet her and cuddle her and show her she is loved; but, your friend also needs to come over once or twice a week and feed the kitten and pet and generally love the kitten, so when the kitten goes to her new home the kitten will not feel so lonely.
You should make a special box for the kitten to sleep in with a big fluffy towel... keep in mind kitten may not sleep in it!
I would say you need to wait until the kitten is almost full grown to take her to the farm.
And, your friend should take kitten to the farm for... "sleepovers" if you will, to sleep in your friends room just once or twice a month after the kitten has been weaned off the baby bottle. When she goes for sleepovers, make sure your friend takes the box made for the kitten to sleep in.
You should introduce the cats to her ONE at a time in YOUR room, with you watching them CONSTANTLY. Only for five minutes each day.
I don't know how many times the kitten should be going to the bathroom in a day, but even if once a day is fine, I think you need to take kitten to the vet anyway, just to check her out... like the annual checkups school nurses give to check weight and eye strength and such.
I think kitten needs to stay just on the formula for another week or so, then introduce her to the wet food; maybe make the food wet and mushy and warm by mixing it with some warm formula. After she's eaten some of that, feed her formula until she's full. Increase her intake of wet food and decrease her intake of formula, making it slightly less mushy each week.
With our kitten, of course, we just gave her dry food cold turkey... but, I think the mushy food thing is better.
Good luck!
best food for kitten is mixture kitten wet food %26 formula %26 kitten biscuits about 6 weeks. make sure plenty of water. You have to help kittens go to toilet by gently wiping under their tails to stimulate their bladder etc. a bit messy but has to be done. Do this after every feed then put them in kitty litter tray. Better if you keep kitty locked in another room for a while. Try %26 keep her until she is at least 8 weeks old.
Feed her formula or cat milk mixed with wet cat food, and some dry food. Feed her every few hours.

5 month old male kitten using bed for litter box.?

my 5 month old male kitten is using a bed for a litter box. i have washed and clean up linen and sprayed but still using bed. litter box is always clean so not sure why he is doing this.. any suggestions?
Answers:
Is he fixed? If not that may be the problem, you need to get that done ASAP. Close your bedroom door so that he can't get in to get at your bed, and all the other suggestions are good too.
Yes take some of the kitten's droppings and mix that with the cat litter in the box. Each time you see the cat heading for the bed, pick him up and put him in the box. Oh for a start put the box in another room, preferably in a corner away from everything and close your bedroom door.
make that liter box it a bed for the kitten then buy a new litter box for him to crap in!
good luck!
how old was he when he got seperated from his mother? cuz cats learn such things by instinct or their mothers so i dunno which part hes losing here exactly
http://pet-diseases.suite101.com/article...
They can get accustomed to going on certain surfaces, like blankets. You need to make the room off limits to him until he learns to use the litter box 100%. Try several different boxes and different types of litters. Let him pick his favorite. Litter boxes need to be private, yet easy to get in and escape from if they feel threatened.
Cats are a law unto themselves, if he has decided this is his toilet you will probably never change him.Try moving his bed to a different place.
put catnip in the kitty box and keep your door shut it will attract the cat to the box

5 month old kitten's poop is yellow-ish?

Our 4/5 month old kitten's poop is watery and yellowish/green. Is this normal, is something wrong? :S
We're going to get the vet to check on her and everything, but not right now because we don't have the money.
We've been taking care of her for about 5 days now, and It's going great. She constantly meows unless shes asleep, and It's as if she wants us to play or keep her company 24/7.
Answers:
most cats are lactose intolerant, and cant process the milk, and is most likely the cause...also, a change intheir food can do it, and feeding wet food to a kitten can as well, their tummies arent that strong yet, but some dry food and water should do the trick

5 month old kitten vomits all the time... HELP!!?

my mom has a 5 month old kitten named JACK and he pukes wet food up so she stopped giving it to him, now he seems to be puking up dry food also, do you have any idea what could be wrong with him? A few insights on JACK, he is very, very hyper, he runs and jumps all day, tries to smack door knobs when he runs past them (he jumps up to hit them) he is just plain crazy, maybe that can have something to do with his puking, ya think? any ideas will help, thanks
Answers:
my kitten used to puke when we changed to a different type of food until he got used to it. also, if he eats grass outside that might be why because my cat used to puke after eating grass. most kittens are hyper- my cat is four and he still attacks door knobs. if he keeps puking take him to the vet
it might be an internal infection.just take jack to a vet as soon as u can
It sounds like hes just hyper active... my cat does the same do you have any other cats that may be stressing him out? that the same with my kitty she get stressed cuz my bully of a cat always takes her food so she tries to eat fast and never fully digests her food then of course she runs off and spreads mayhem
One of my cats who is 4yrs old now has been doing the same since she was a kitten, she was the runt of the litter and had to fight for her food so now she gulps down as much as she can in one sitting just in case there is no more food later, this causes her to vomit quite often and has led to her being taken to the vet on numerous occasions as she has made herself ill, once with a ruptured stomach, this may also be the case with you're kitten, i have found that reducing the amount of feed given at any one time has been effective, but as a precaution you should tell you're mother to take Jack to the vet to have him checked over. Good Luck x x
Please take him to the vet ASAP. You can get advice online, but it is very unreliable. Yes it will cost to take him, but if you want him to be alright, take him soon.
This could be a simple food allergy. You should try feeding premium food, not from a grocery store. There are several made specifically for sensitive stomachs. Just make sure you are feeding kitten food, not cat food, at least until the cat is 1 year old, if not 18 months.
If you don't change the food, your kitten may develop acid-reflux syndrom - which causes damage to the stomach and esophagus. Severe heartburn is very painful.
This should be addressed immediately.
If the kitten hasn't been to the vet - it needs to go. He should be current on all tests and vaccinations. He should be tested for worms, as well.
Personally, I would have a blood panel run, to check levels, and make sure there isn't a more serious problem. These tests are typically run before any surgery, like neutering.
And lastly, this could be an allergic response to something else in his environment - like perfumed carpet powders, or strongly perfumed or kitty litter that's too dusty.
Good luck to you all!
i had problems of my kitty puking up virtually all the time also..i decreased the amount of food that he was to eat (approximately a handful of food) and his puking has drastically decreased..only feed him twice a day in small amounts..
I would take him to the vet to get checked out. My dog had the same problem with throwing up food. We took her to the vet and found out she has food allergies. Now she eats food we get from the vet and has had no more problems with eating.
You really should bring that up with the vet, because the sooner you figure out what's wrong, the sooner he'll be better.

5 babies!!?

ok so my cat just had 5 babues today!! im soo happy ! but... before that the mom spent a lot of time outside during the last 2 weeks so she caught a looot of fleas!! i wanna get rid of the before she gives them to the new babies what can i do that wont affect her since shes breast feeding and wants to be with her babies?? also i want to know what i can do to help the mom since she had 5 babies?? and how long do i have to wait so i can have her neutered??
Answers:
The first thing you want to do is not bother the mother, or she may relocate the kittens to a safer location, and you may not find that. I have posted a link on newborn kitten care. While the mother is doing all the work, reading it may help you not overreact and help you recognize when things are going well and not well.
Your kitties will likely have fleas and ear mites, and possibly worms. Those are vet issues and probably will have to wait a bit. For the mother, buy some kitten food, as she will need the extra nourishment.
At age 8 weeks, kittens are generally weaned. Then, her milk should dry up. She probably can be spayed (females are spayed) anytime thereafter. Waiting too long may result in another batch of kittens.
Around 8 weeks, assuming there are no health problems, you want to bring the kittens to a vet, and you can discuss spaying at that time.
If you see problems, seek a vet help immediately, as kittens can quickly go down hill.
before you listen to someone on here...you need to call your vet. if you do not have an established vet, just go to the phone book and pick a number. they will tell you what you need to do. vets know your animals best and they know how to safely treat them... many people on here just write down things to get points. good luck with your new kittens :)
i think spaying your cat might have to wait 3-6 months after giving birth.double check with a vet. as for the fleas.on the kittens the only thing my vet said to do was to buy DAWN original dishsoap and wash them in that and you might wanna try a flea comb you can get it at walmart or a petstore and just comb them out and stick them in dawn/water mixture so the fleas drown. oh and only wash the kittens every two days you don't wanna dry out their skin...good luck!
I agree it is important for you to contact a vet
definantly ask a vet what you should do specifically. fleas can and will get very bad very fast and may kill your kittens.
Leave the care of the babies to the mommy. The mommy does not like her babies to be touched by anyone. Sometimes if you touch the babies that small the mother will abandon them often even kill them. The vet will tell you about flea protection. Do not bathe the kittens.
I think its best to ask the vet
Just so you know...fleas can kill baby kittens.
Congratulations!
Revolution is a flea product which is safe to use on nursing cat. It is a Parasiticide that is applied to the skin of the cat. Apart from fleas it is also used to treat and prevent ear mite infestation, sarcoptic mange, roundworm, hookworm and heartworm. However you should use caution when applying it on sick, weak, or underweight animals, or animals with broken or irritated skin. Do not use it on kittens less than 6 weeks of age.
Just make the mother comfortable and she should be able to take care of the rest. You need to worry about finding good homes for the little ones.
You need to wait on spaying the mother until after the kittens have been weaned, which will take about 6-10 weeks. The mammary glands and uterus will be back or close to their normal size, which will make the surgery safer and easier. Keep an eye on the mother to make sure she doesn't get pregnant again, before she has the surgery.
Contact your veterinarian about these and any other questions you may have, since they will be able to give you more specific and accurate answers.
Good Luck!
call your vet. there are a lot of things out there to treat fleas for the mom, you have to be very careful about what you use or it could kill the babies. the mom can be spayed as soon as the kittens are weaned. be very careful letting her outside, she can get pregnant while still nursing the first litter. with that said, call you vet.
just call the vet.
As a Humane Society volunteer we used Frontline Spray not the Frontline on the Spot that you put between the shoulders. Do not spray on the tummy or legs. Hope this helps

4 year old cat is peeing in other rooms suddenly?

I have a 4 year old female calico cat, spayed. Acts and looks perfectly healthy, jumps around, loves attention, NO attitude change or health change at all from what I see. My roommates sister has been staying with us for almost 2 months now, and the cat is peeing on the couch downstairs, any clothes on them, blankets, etc., ever since. She doesn't seem mad at the new roommate, she actually loves getting pet by her. She still uses the litter box like normal as well.
We have another cat in the house, and they always got along fine. So it isn't with her.
I just don't know why she is suddenly peeing all over the place. HELP! What can I do? She HATES car rides to the vet, actually pees in the carrier because she hates the ride.
Answers:
Start by getting her checked out for a urinary tract infection. Many times, cats will urinate in odd places because they associate urinating in the litter box with the pain they feel when they urinate.
After you rule out any possible physical cause, you can start looking at behavioral causes.
You should take her to the vet. Urinating outside the litter box can be a sign of an underlying health issue such as urinary tract infection, diabetes, or kidney problems. If she urinates in the carrier on the way to the vet then that may be a convenient specimen for a urinalysis. They may need to do blood work to make a diagnosis. If after ruling out other conditions the problem persists it could be behavioral or feline idiopathic cystitis, which can be a real problem to solve b/c the cause isn't actually known yet. You could try Feliway spray and plug ins, it is supposed to release cat pheromones to help relax a stressed or anxious cat and is recommended for urinary behavioral issues. Good luck.
she is trying to protect her territory in some way. maybe your roommates sister has cat dander on some of her stuff and ur cat is just freakin out. she might also have a bladder problem.

4 week old kittens and their routines?

My mother cat has moved the kittens several times, whenever I move them, she moves them somewhere else and every morning when I wake up its find the kittens, any suggestions on that? These kittens are also pooping everywhere, and a lot. are they ready for kitten food? do I use water or milk? how much when I moisten the food? should I leave the kittens where they are or can I pick another spot?
Answers:
www.kittenwise.com
they're free and helpful
Let the mother choose the spot she wants the kittens. If you move them and she doesn't like the location she will only move them again.
This is a really good article for you to read:
Caring for Newborns %26 the Queen

EDIT: This article has information on feeding and nutrition, sanitation and litter box training. You could try and move them again. Is it possible to move them to the bathroom and close them in so the mom can't move them on you.

4 week old kitten won't eliminate, has swollen stomach and butt?

my poor kitten! i rescued him from starving to death but his stomach was really huge. he also had an upper respiratory infection and seemed really hungry, but didn't want to eat much. we found out he probably had roundworms so we got some medicine for that and he's also on medicine for the cold. he's got a much better appetite after the roundworm meds, but as far as i know he hasn't peed or pooped at all. his stomach is still rather swollen and his little butt is swollen too, like he really has to go. i've tried rubbing it with a warm cotton ball and all it seems to do for him is make him squirm away from me. do i need to do this constantly until i get something out of him? i really don't want to hurt him, but i'm scared about how long he can go without passing anything. help!
Answers:
You know, I want to answer your question, and I really do want to help. I actually have done volunteer work with some NYC cat rescue groups and cat sitting for rescued cats, done a lot of medicating animals and such like. I do know and can tell you that after a kitten this age eats, his midsection swells, because his body mass is so slight. The meal shows. The thing that baffles me is this thing about a "swollen butt". That's a new one. I've never seen it, and I can't imagine it. But tell me: when you are constipated, does your behind swell? I certainly hope not. So this one just baffles me.
By the time a kitten is four weeks old, it eliminates without stimulus from the mother's tongue, so the cotton ball-warm cloth maneuver won't help, and if he is squirming away from you, he is telling you just that.
Your starving kitten's swollen belly was almost certainly from the worms, and dead roundworms would absolutely NOT cause an intestinal blockage, so kind of ignore that response. But he has ingested a lot of novel stuff since he came into your care, and it is possible that he is constipated. That is not at all uncommon in kittens.
I have seen other people in petqna.com write in with constipated kittens, and they were told repeatedly and by many, to feed a teaspoon or so of canned pumpkin with the kitten's wet food. When my cat was a kitten and got constipated, I gave him an eyedropper full of mineral oil (I read about this in a cat care manual), which greased the skids and produced results in a short time. If you are worried, try both, as neither will harm your kitten in any way.
The important thing when you are dealing with a constipated kitten is the kitten's behavior. Is he still eating? Is he lively and playful? Or is he, as the ads say, sluggish? If he is lively and will eat, even if he is constipated, he is okay. Just dose him.
Finally, if he is taking antibiotics for his upper respiratory infection (which is a very, very common ailment in rescues), they could be part of your problem with elimination. Antibiotics kill the bad guys, but they also destroy beneficial bacteria -- called "probiotic" -- in the digestive tract. Get thee to the grocery store and buy some really good yogurt. Really good yogurt lists the various kinds of -- guess what? -- probiotic cultures: acidophilus, bifidus, etc. The more cultures that are listed, the better the yogurt. Buy a carton of plain yogurt, and get about a teaspoon a day into your little guy for the duration of his course of antibiotics, and then for a couple of days beyond.
I mean -- from starvation to good food. Then worming meds and antibiotics. He's a little less-than-a-pound wee creature. His gut has been dealing with a lot since he met you. But if he is lively and eating, he is fine.
If he is sluggish or sick acting, then you should weigh in with the vet. And if this "swollen butt" you talk about translates into a swollen anus -- provided it's not from you and your cotton ball -- then you definitely need to weigh in with the vet on this. He could maybe have an irritated anus from expelling the worming meds?
I don't know how much help Ihave been. But I hope there's something in this response you can use and that helps. Good luck!
I would try bathing him and keep rubbing his bum with a soft cloth until he goes. if that still does not work try feeding him water in between formula.
you need to take that kitten to the vet. you should have taken that kitten to the vet before getting meds for him. it sounds like he has malnutrition thats why he isn't eating, or he could have a tumor is his tummy...he really needs a vet.
to be honest the last time i saw a cat like that it was cancer.
Get him to a vet, the worms may be blocking his intestines. This could easily be a life or death situation.
you either must take him to the vet NOW or turn him into the animal shelter where he can get help from a vet NOW. Or you will be the reason he dies. get off the computer and go now
Please take him to the vet ASAP. I had the same problem with a kitten in the past. The fecal matter had hardened in her intestines and caused a blockage. Kittens can and do die from this, so don't wait until it is too late.
Use a warm washcloth and "lick" his bottom with it. A mother cat will lick his behind to get him to go. So, pretend your hand with the washcloth is a momma cat's tongue. You don't need to be too gentle. Also, the washcloth will feel more like a cat's tongue. The cotton ball probably just tickles. If he's not going, you may need to take him to the vet and tell them you found it. If you are willing to do the care and everything, they may be willing to work with you on a price.
wow, the poor guy is in obvious pain, instead of asking ?'s on the net %26 self diagnosing him, TAKE HIM TO A VET. you should have done this when you first found him to begin with. it's not that hard to figure out.

4 month old kitten.?

He won't use his scratching post that I bought him.. Someone told me to put cat nip on it so he will use it... Is he too young for cat nip??
Answers:
Apart from the above mentioned, it could also be the location that "turns him off". Cats scratch to establish their territory, so maybe it's not in a spot that needs that -apart from that cats like to use their posts as a "lookout"
f.i. a quiet part of the house won't be as tempting as a spot in front of the window or just around the corner of a doorway.
So if the catnip and the playing around it don't work, try just moving it.
No hes not to young for cat nip,But thats even if he will use it after that.I have a weird cat i guess i have this one scratch post and she dont touch it at all.Now i got a huge one given to me from my cousin and she loves it so i dont know maybe its just that post??
I don't know about catnip (except that not all cats are affected by it). The best way I found was to play with the kitten around the scratching pole, making it part of the game. Perhaps place his favorite toy on top of the pole, enticing the kitten to claw at the pole. They soon get the idea.
Most cats do not respond to cat nip until they are at least 6 months and sometimes not at all. Early exposure and overexposure can also make them immune to it sometimes. I suggest attaching a string with or without some kind of ball or toy to the post to attract him to it.
he isnt too young for catnip but he may not respond to it yet they usally respond to catnip from about 6 months ish . depends on the cat ,
makesure its a high scrathcing post as this stoped my kitten using it and now he has gt a really tall one and scracthes on it all the time .
good look

4 kittens names?

need names. a tabby,,, a darker tabby,,,, a black one... and a white and black one (not tuxedo) just with with black...
i was thinking earth, air , fire, water...
4 names that go together... any ideas..
Answers:
ruby saphire emerald and diamond.
i have 2 names for the tabbey and the tabbet with black and white just e-mail me
People will think you are crazy when you are outside calling your cats. Come here "Air". Come here "Earth". Come here "Water". When you call "Fire" to come home the neighbors will probably call 911. Give your head a shake !
I like the name tabby because I used to have a stuffed animal cat named tabby. And I think the black and white cat should be named oreo. I think the black kitten should be named spooky. And I think the darker tabby should be named shadow. Hope I could help!
You could do something like Blizzard/Snowflake, Flame/Ember, Tornado/Breeze, Forest... etc
ace, skittles, blake and kiki
I like names that go together too. You can pick names from characters of a movie or famous philosophers, or even names of spices. Also, it would be cute to have little kittens with big grown names like Wolverine and Cyclops.
Earth, Air, Fire, Water are really spiffy names!
Or you could do Raphael, Gabriel, Michael, and Uriel. The four archangels. Who represent north, east, south and west (Earth, Air, Fire, Water...)
Idk. I was just giving you more ideas off of your idea.
Well, let's see here. How 'bout: Comet, Cupid, Donner %26 Rudolph (Rudy)? Or, you could go with: Happy, Dopey, Sneezy %26 Doc (or Bashful), or any variety of the 7-dwarfs.
You didn't say whether they were males, females or a couple of both--but, if you happen to have a bunch of males, how 'bout: THE BEATLES: John, Paul, George %26 Ringo (Ringo could also be a female). There's a couple of ideas you can think about---oh, and then there's: Huey, Dewey, Louie %26 Daisey. Have fun picking names for these little ones.
Snowflake, Jingle Bells (nickname: Jingles), Frosty the Snowman ( nickname:Frosty), Mistletoe
those names are dumb.why does it have to be some type of element? anyways, name them on there personalities like it they are really happy and love to jump name it Bouncy you know? something like that.
bam-bam, pebbles, betty, barney, fred, wilma
I personally love the names you picked out...put how to decide who is air and who is water ect... LOL
You could name them after the three musketeers. (because there are actually four..) The bossiest should be D'Artagnan :)
D'Artagnan
Athos
Porthos
Aramis
Or after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Leonardo
Raphael
Donatello
Michelangelo
Hope these help? :)
john paul george and ringo!! any other famous groups of four

4 ear cats?

I use to have one but, I really didnt take enough time up with it so I gave it away to a better home. Anyways how many people have actually heard about them? How many actually has had one? I have a picture somewhere but she was under a blanket and you really couldnt see the ears. My teacher who I got it from said it was some foreign cat and is suppose to be rare.
Answers:
That's what happens with inbreeding.
it an animal oddity. so yes it would be rare... there was one born in Germany..

3yr.old cat w/ toxoplasmosis on clindamycin for 2weeks suddenly throwing up.?

Started treating for toxo 2 weeks ago and yesterday she vomited once after eating, today twice (both times after eating the food.) I put the med in the food FYI. Could this be a reaction to the meds or something more serious? This vomitting is different then I've ever seen her do - it is almost like she gags on her tongue too. I can't reach the vet until 9am tomorrow. Please help...
Answers:
It is probably a reaction to the med. Don't give her any more medication until you clear it with the vet.
Call other vets in the area, as often they will have emergency "after-hour" vet services (if you can, find your vet's home phone number in the phone book). Or (this is a big chance), call your own doctor to ask about this. Yes, he may not be a vet, but as he is in the medical field, he could tell you whether or not mixing clindamycin into your cat's food would be a good or bad thing. Last choice is to call your local hospital and tell them what's going on, that you want to know if you should stop the clindamycin or not.
I think I would stop giving the clindamycin for now, until you see the vet. I would drive over to the vet's first thing in the morning with your cat. Be there when he/she opens the door!!
Good luck. Hope your kitty gets better!!
According to Vetbase you do not need to be alarmed if this only happens for a couple of days. Offer water to keep her from getting dehydrated. If the cat seems listless, dull, lethargic, then obviously you need to get her to a vet.
Vomiting can be caused by stomach ulcers or uremia, or from drugs. Has she had access to antifreeze? You probably know that is toxic.
But you know if this is not anything like what she ever did before, so go with your gut and take her to the vet if you think that is needed. When pets gets seriously ill, you have so little time to intervene.

I am about to get a four month old kitten 鈥?any tips?

I have had cats all my life at my family home, but this would be my first cat of my own.
I have a cat flap that leads into my garden so it will be able to go out (once it is old enough and had all it's vaccinations). I work during the day so the cat will probably turn out to be quite independent in the long run.
Any tips for names would also be appreciated! :-)
Answers:
I wouldn't let your kitten outside. I let my childhood cat outside and he contracted feline aids (even though he is spayed). I just adopted a four month old and I bought her a lot of toys, treats, and i purchased the same food the shelter was feeding her so she won't get sick eating different food. Also a litter box with a side low enough she can step over. Also kitten shampoo and a brush. she is medium-haired and I don't think she had ever been groomed at the shelter. A scratch pad so she won't scratch the furniture. I named my kitty Ruby.
names.. lets see. watch what the cat does. the things it might give u an idea.
coco fluffy kitty pants
u should get the cat fixed because i dont think u would want to come home from work one day and find a pregnant cat or come home to four more cats anyway u should name him depending on his color or personality
I would suggest trying to train them to use the litterbox right away, and get them used to the outside if they are going to be outside cats. Definetly do not de-claw it.
Names- Spaz, Shadow, Dragon, Aston, Harry. I don't know what your cat is going to look like, but there are some ideas...
her's a quick tip. get a couple of different litter boxes because I read in a book that some cats prefer open litter boxes and others like them closed. and for names...well it depends if its a boy or a girl and what type it is but here are some of my favorite names..
Moon light, Star, Neko(neko is cat in japanese), Purin(purin means pudding in japanese), and Twikles.
here's my friends favorites and also some of her pets names..
Pink(her cat), Sir butter toast(her jurble), Fat man(her other jurble), and Sakura.

3 Year Old Cat Is Sick"(help)"?

OK,I have had snuggles going on a month. He was sickly when I rescued him but Within 2 weeks, he had gained 5 pounds and was given a clean bill of health. He thru up his morning food.I figured he just engulfed as usual but This time vomited.Well,He has done nothing but Loaf around all day, ears outward, head down, sad looking.About 2 hours ago he spat up a hairball. And I found a little bit of spittle.Still not worried at that point because i have rescued animals for over 15 years. But I noticed about 30 minutes ago that snuggles has shallow ,rampid breathing.Very Shallow. He is still purrring. But That does not mean he isn;t sick. I cant get him to a Vet till Morning.I am not sure if he is just under the weather as we all can get(including our 4 legged kids),and the breathing is from being nauseated,or from vomited a hairball and his tummy is sore..Im just looking for any kinda answer.Ijust dont want to lose him over nite.Any ideas?
Answers:
I'd find a 24 hr emergency vet. Surely just about every animal hospital has an on call service. If your vet doesn't offer that, then I'd try to locate one that does. Best wishes, and Thank you for what you are doing for the homeless animals out there. Your an animals angel =)
u should call the vet and tell them what your promble with cta and they will ask u bring in to do test's to help it
Do you have access to oxygen? Is the cat drinking? I'd say there's a good chance you'll lose him. Poor baby. I wish I had more help!
TX Cat mom
Cats, for whatever reason, purr when in severe distress. Isn't there an emergency clinic in your neighborhood? Do you have any gatorade in the house? You can force feed him some (to hydrate him) with a syringe. I don't know what's wrong, but I sure wish I did. Also, try smearing some Pepto on your finger and wiping it on his tongue. You have me quite worried...good luck. I'll keep a good thought.
%26lt;edit> Jo, your answer was spot-on...I didn't even think of the recent recalls...excellent thinking. I hope everything turns out okay.
Sometimes cat purr when they're in pain, too. If his breathing is shallow it might be something kinda serious...
Does your vet have a 24 hr. call center? Our vet has something set up where if there's an emergency in the middle of the night we can call in and they'll track down the vet - he asked that we call him first so he can hear symptoms over the phone and either bring us in or calm us down. It's saved us a lot of trips to the (very expensive) vet ER.
Otherwise check the phone book and see if you have a 24 hr. vet or vet ER that will take questions. A professional might recognize the symptoms better than anyone here :)
If a consult really isn't possible until morning, just keep him comfortable, try to calm him down (pet him, talk to him) and see if that will help him even out his breathing. Panicking will only agitate whatever is wrong with him.
Good luck!
You should take it to the vet as soon as you can probably is poisoned... cats can get poisoned with very common things such as plants, flowers and even some food we think is harmless... good luck
shallow breathing is not a good sign and wouldn't be present if he's just under the weather. are there any vets on call? i really wouldn't wait til morning. he might not make it. ear placement and head down sounds like he's in pain.
good luck i hope all goes well. could he have gotten into anything poisonous?
Shallow rapid breathing can be several things. First, it could be an allergic reaction. Has Snuggles eaten a bug that you know of? A shot of epinephren will immediately help...That was the case with my cat.or my mom's cat did that you described and she had fluid around her heart and now takes Lasix daily. I would try an emergency vet service.Good luck to Snuggles and God bless you for rescuing animals.
What do you feed him? I wish I could say for certain that the pet food contamination was over, but I haven't seen any written guarantees of that since the first recalls and subsequent unadvertised multiple recalls that followed. You might ask your Vet (if the Vet is unsure what is wrong) to run a blood panel to check for toxins like what was poisoning animals in food (melamine, cyanuric acid, even acetaminophen in pet foods).
If he's indoors/outdoors or even indoors only but might have gotten into something toxic or a toxic plant that could cause him to be sick like that. If he is still doing the rapid and shallow breathing at this point in time, if you are reading this, an emergency clinic might be needed. At least call one and see what they tell you. Hope your cat will be okay.
give it back defective product get your refund then get a real pet like a dog
Sometimes when cats vomit they can bruise thier ribs. Especially if it was twice and they were trying to get up a hairball. Is he dehydrated? You can check this by pinching their scruff on the neck. It should go back to the right place quickly, if not he may be dehydrated. This can be really serious for a cat. If you have ever bruised your ribs, you know how painful it can be. He could be breathing shallow because it is causing him pain.
I would recommend calling the vetand telling them the symptoms. They might give you some advice over the phone or have you wait until morning. Either way, a professional opinion would not hurt.
When did he have his vaccines? I would think pretty recently since you said you have had him about a month. If it was within a few days then it could be a reaction to one of them. If it has been longer than that then i wouldn't think so. Keep him calm and be sure he doesn't get overheated. I would recommend putting him in a carrier and making sure he has plenty of water available with lots of ventilation. Cats are notorious for trying to hide when they are ill. I wouldn't want him to get lost while he is sick.
Call the vet and see what they say. Keep him calm and cool. Check on him frequently. I wouldn't give him any food tonight. Let his stomach rest overnight. Does he have runny stool? Could he have gotten into any poisonous substances or plants? Have you checked him thoroughly for any wounds?
Though I would take the kitty to a vet immediately, I have a similar cat. After my cat of many years died, I adopted a cat from my friend - he purrs strangely, all the time, and meows more than I am used to - BUT he is fine, missing a bunch of teeth bc he was a street-adopted cat - and throws up because he can't digest the food I give him. I give him aa mix of wet and dry food, well -mixed. And feed him when he wants, otherwise, mine pukes up a white saliva mess if he can't get food on time.but he's good.
By the time I read this, you were already about to take Snuggles to the vet.
Hope it's nothing serious (or expensive). Let us know what happens.

3 week old kittens?

i have kittens and they are three weeks old.. there eyes opened about a week and a half ago... a couple of them still have gunk around their eyes in the morning when they wake up. i take a warm cotton pad and wipe it off... is this normal? or should i take them to the vet to get them checked out? it is only happening to two of them? ... thanks
Answers:
The crusty eyes can be a sign of either parasites(worms, ear mites), or an Upper Respritory Infection, or some sort of infection.
I would recommend taking them to the vet to have them checked out thoroughly just to be sure they are healthy. They need wormed anyway and will be needing their first shots in a few weeks.
They will probably ask you to bring in a fresh stool sample from each kitten as well. They will look at it under the scope to check for internal parasites.
They are very young so I wouldn't take any chances with their health. A vet check is always a good idea. Most vets give a large discount for bringing in a litter of kittens since they all are getting the same treatment at the same time.
call the vet and ask.
3 weeks.. they need kitten formula and a bottle. KMR is the best. A sock full or rice warmed up in the microwave would also be helpful to maintain a healthy body temp. They probably can't go to the bathroom by themselves yet either so I would recommend running warm water on their genitals every 4-6 hours to help them urinate and deficate. I would also take them to the vet and get a professionals opinon in regards to proper care.
Why isn't the mother cat taking care of her kittens?

3 month old kittens?

A couple of months ago my cat gave birth to kittens. They grew normally and behaved normally. This I know because I have had kittens in the past. However, within in the past 4 days 5 out of 6 kittens have suddenly from one day to the next lost their appetite, gotten weak, and died. I am very worried and obviously saddened. I had every intention of finding them homes. But the issue of their sudden deaths bothers me. Now the mother is starting to get weak . I noticed that all of the kittens had some brown gunk in their ears and one had a discharge come out her butt while she was sick, but what is so bothersome is that "it" whatever "it" is just seems to attack and kill the kitttens. What could it be? An infection perhaps, ear mites, or something else. I didn't think ear mites attacked like that so quickly and to kittens. Thanks.
Answers:
Sounds alot like feline distemper. Get them to a vet right away.
probably an internal infection. did mom receive treatment for the pregnancy? you probably would of been best to get her fixed... that's why spay and neutering is so good for your pets. you dont have to put them through this much pain!
GO TO THE VET! WHY ARE YOU ASKING HERE?! IF YOU'RE NOT SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THIS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE TAKING CARE OF ANY LIFE FORM.
i wish i could be of more help but take them to a vet, find out if they could have the thing dog puppies can get during the summer, im really sorry bout your kittens
Have to agree about if you dont know to take them to the vet you shouldnt have them
they probably died because they havent been properly vacinated etc.
Poor poooor kitties.

2 yr. old male seems clingy since a 2 week vacation?

Since I've been back, he's got low energy and seems to need to be CLOSE - on my lap or cuddled close. He does go out and he lost his breakaway collar. I feel like something happened. The vet says he's okay. Has this happened to anyone else?
Answers:
he probably thought you had abandoned him. just give him love and cuddles right now to reassure him that you are back and that everything is fine. it might take a few days or even a week but he will be back to his usual self in no time
Perhaps he got into a fight or got chased by a predator and is seeking you to feel safe. Or he could have just missed you very much! Try to keep him inside for awhile.
He missed you and probably thought you left for good. My 2 cats stay close to me after staying away for just 1 night. Just love him and be happy in the knowledge that he loves you back.
he is confused about what has just happened to him. He needs reassurence that everyting will be ok...t

2 new cats?

I just got 2 new 3 year old cats. Their old owner is moving and cant take them with him. How long does it usually take for them to adjust to their new surroundings? They are both hiding under a bed, and wont come out. How can i help them adjust? Should i pet them to get them used to me or leave them be and let them come to me?
Answers:
Pet them if they come out from under the bed.. Letting them adjust is OK but coaxing them out from under the bed is good. Letting them now where the litter box is and their food is a good idea to .Best of luck to you.
If possible keep them in the room where you plan on keeping the litter box. If that isn't possible than make sure they have a litter box near by as they most likely will be too scared to go look for it. Make sure food and water is near by too.
It can take days or weeks for them to settle in...just give them time and don't push them.
Definetly give them there space till they calm down a little, cats will usually hide for a couple of days, try to keep your house quiet.
Put wet food, chicken, catnip, in the middle of your house and see if they will come out.If they dont place it closer to them till they do and then move it away a little bit more everyday.
When they are in the middle of the living room, gently hold out some chicken or fish, and try to get them to come over, coo and talk softly to them then let them smell your hand and try to pet them. Most likely they aare comming out while you are asleep and it's you they are trying to get used to.
Oh no need to worry. They'll adjust really fast. I have a 4 month old kitten. I got him this June and by the 2nd day he was acting like he knew us his whole life! My cat does that when he wants to play, so your kittens probably want to play to.
It's different for each cat, some adjust in hours others months. I would let them be but go in and talk to the in a soft voice. Offer my hand so they can get my scent several times a day. After a day or two I would then try to see if I can pet them while talking to them softly and reaching very slowly. Also put a treat in my hand to help them come over but all the time soft and slow. Let them work at their own pace. They will come around as long as it is a loving enviroment. Good luck and thanks for taking them in. Do they have familar thing with them? Like a blanket, bed, toy from their old house? That usually helps too.
Leave them be. They will explore on their own. Sometimes it takes adult cats awhile to come around. When they do come out, place them in their litter box and let them continue to explore from there. That is the most important place for them to find, so you will need to help them to save yourself some possible complications on house training. Good luck and you are a wonderful person for taking them both into a good home!
about a week.1day and one night hold the captive in your room and pet them and play with them. the the rest of the week let them explore there new suroudings and let them come to you.

2 cats, 3 months together, still dont play together?

have 2 cats, both female, 6 months and 9+ months. have had them together for 3 months total now, and theyre tolerant of each other and have been this whole time, but they still wont play together. its very frustrating because they both are a lot of work (in terms of playtime) and so i have to play w/ both of them separately, so it actually doubles my playtime. i got a second cat so they would play together, so that i wouldnt have to spend so much of my day with them and they would have each other, yet they just really avoid each other. also, the older one is not only bigger by age, but is also a bigger breed, so there is a size difference between them. so when they do play, its usually the older one kinda smackin around the younger one, so the younger one just usually ends up running away, which probably doesn't help them in becoming better friends lol. anyways, lookin for tips on how to get them playing with each other so they arent so dependent on me. thanks.
Answers:
maybe instead of having any of them sleep with you have a designated spot for both of them to sleep...so they won't be dependent on you. put them with a cat bed or someing ina certain room with their cat box, food, water, toys, ect and close your door! have them sleep together :)
i have 3 cats, 2 male and 1 female, both males chase the female. and both males fight, alot sometimes. but, they are just playing. i would suggest to leave the cats alone, and dont play with them, alot. maybe they are dependent on you too much to play with. i dont play with my cats all the time, and they play together. yes they fight, but they are having fun. females usually like to stay alone anyway. my female is always off by herself. get a male, maybe that will help also. best of luck!
This is a really interesting question. Sometimes cats don't like each other they just tolerate each other. Its nothing you can really control. It is unusual that cats that are introduced as kittens don't play together especially since kittens are extremely active. Which cat came first? The older one or the younger one? I tried introducing an older cat to my 9 week old kitten and it was disastrous. I had to give the older cat away as i didn't have time to introduce them properly cos i work during the day. I am really interested in this question as i would like to try get my kitten a playmate but want to know if i should rather try introducing a younger kitten to him. So would really like to know which cat of yours came first?
I sort of had the same situation. My male Persian cat was over two years and I bought him a female Persian-Himalayan female kitten (she was three months old.) It was hard, but manageable.
The female was very playful while my male was very cautious and shy. After a few months, like four or so, they got over the tension. And now, two years later, they have two beautiful kittens which I am also keeping.
Don't worry. They'll play together soon. Hope this helps.
Cats are very independent creatures. And they do what they want not what you want. I believe you need to leave them alone and let them do what they want when they want. It will take time but I am sure they will become friends . They need to learn about each other . I have 2 older male cats one 7 and one 16 and I got a new female kitten last fall. They all stayed far from each other and just observed, for a long time. Then the 7 year old starting coming around and we couldn't believe this but he took on the mother role and started to clean this kitten and sleep with her and taught her to play! It is something to watch. Then just this past spring the older male started doing the same thing he cleans on her and they all sleep together, and play . But it took each older cat there on time to get used to the new cat. But they all did. So please be patient and let them do there thing. And they may never want to do all things together but that is OK too I said the little female kitten won the males over and now has them wrapped around her little paws!! And all cats have different personality's so let them find there's. That is the fun of cats!! Good Luck!
cat's always have to establish a pecking order ... which ideally should go you-oldest cat- youngest cat. do you feed them together? try playing with something they both like.. ie food! if you start by showing them that play together = food and play apart = no food but cuddles, they might start learning to play together
your older cat if not fixes yet problem thinks she is her mom, so there is not much play with them but more be told what is what. I just got a kitten two weeks ago, i also have a year and 1/2 old they play so well i get no play time with them sometimes. the older one is fixes it is female and the 4 mouth one will be fixes when he is old enough. so just play with them together if you can, but don't get up set if it doesn't happen. they do care for each other.
When i moved out to the country, i had 2 cats and my stepmother had 2 cats and when we put them together they got in a fight. My cats didn't even go near my step-mothers cats but after a year they started to tolerate each other.

2 cats one spayed one non-nuetered?

Will a non-neutered male cat try to mate with a spayed female cat?
i have two cats... one male one female... if i get the famale spayed
will the male still be able to mate with her without problems?
what will happen with this situation?
Answers:
Just get them both fixed. It's better for everyone. Really. There are many good reasons beyond the obvious kitten prevention. An unfixed male will probably spray your house and try to get outside to mate with females in heat. If he IS allowed outside, he should most certainly be neutered. There are enough unwanted kittens already.
If vet cost is an issue, check with your local humane society. Many of them have programs for discounts on spaying and neutering cats.
Whatever you do, stop asking this question over and over, it's annoying! It's fine to want more input, but at least wait a few days before you ask it again.
>^.^%26lt;
The male would still try to mate with your spayed female. You should really have all cats spayed or neutered. It really is more humane. A male cats temperment is also much better if you neuter him.
The female cat won't want to mate but the male cat will. I previously asked a question about if my desexed female cat would still mate and the answer was no. The female will not go into heat and will never want to mate for the rest of her life. The again the male probably won't mate with her because she is never in heat. Best to get them bith desexed but if it can only be one for now you are right to choose the female.
The male will try to hump her and spray to try to get her to want to mate.

2 cats of mine have been walking around with their neck paralyized in one postion what is wrong with them?

One cat is a kitten and the other is her mother. Their Heads are cocked to one side. I don't know if this is a illness of some sort.
Answers:
I would definately get them to a vet ASAP.
This doesn't sound normal and the only thing I can think of really is that they may have fallen and cracked something in their neck area, or did they somehow get into something poisonous? Rat poisons, harmful cleaners and chemicals can cause paralysis.
if its bothering u, and u can see it bothers them, take them to the vet.
It seems they have a broken neck; I advise you to take them to the Vetinarian.
Did they eat something, or fall off of something? Did they get hurt or abused by someone? Are they outside cats? Cats necks don't "just" get messed up like that..You need to do some investigating and find out what your cats have been up to or in..You really should contact a emergency vet clinic and talk to someone who can give you info on this situation.

If you have multiple cats do they “fight” for the prime spot on you? Like who gets to lay on your chest?

Is it the heartbeat they love or us?
Answers:
I have 4, and they have their own little ranking thing going on. The most dominant, the oldest male, seems to like to hog my attention just for the sake of it. The youngest girl was the only stray, and she wants to sit in my lap ALL the time, and I often wake up with her on my back. The two inbetween are not so greedy, but I try to give them their time too. It could be the heartbeat, but I like to think it's because they love me.
Depends on the cat. My two are brothers - one loves to sit on my knees or lie on my chest. The other prefers to sit near, but not touching.
Cat's show ways of affection, and that is one of them. Some cats will get annoyed when the human gives a lot of attention to one cat, and the other cat gets little attention.
depends sometimes it's both mine don't fight they just get jealous of who get 2 me 1st
well my cats always fight over me and my family's lap so my guess is proubly yes.
I have two 7 months old kittens and the big black one is "my" cat and the little gray one is my husband's cat.
Of course, it's the big, fat kitty who always wants to lay on my chest and do pressy paws on my neck and constricts my breathing in the process. But I know he does it 'cuz he loves me and I love him even though he "takes my breath away". He licks my eyes and mouth while he does this and will purr in my ear and get cat spit in my hair. But I don't care- he's my big furry baby.
my two cats, sasha and snickers, are usually both wanting to lay on mine and my brother's beds with us, either next to us or on our chests. but if sasha is lying on my chest and snickers comes up, they don't fight, snickers just lays where she is. but if snickers is on my chest and sasha comes up, sasha will cry and then leave. they never fight though, i guess it just depends on each cat's personality.

You to “Do Something” for Animals?

Answers:
What do you mean do something! I love pets. I volunteer and the local pet hospital and I also volunteer time for the Humane Society. I love spending time with animals. I have two dogs, and a cat. Plus my parents have dogs that I play with. I got my grandma a big german shepard after my grandpa died, and she loves her. Plus I gave my aunt karen a cute little Toy Fox Terrier, she loves little dogs, she has 3. Animals are very important in our family. I also have a friend who collects any pets that someone does not want. She has Dogs, Cats, Birds, an Emu, Horses, Donkeys, and many others.
yeah
Um....sure why not
yeah of course!!
I really don't know what you mean.
But I run a kitty orphanage.
what?
I volunteer for the catnip campaign. To help neuter them. It is one of the best thing to do if you love animals.
of course, I have 2 adopted cats that I've had for 2 years. they are spoiled and love it and I also work at the SPCA

14 year old cat with anal bleeding, read question please?

One of my 3 cats is about 14 years old and today we found her lying on our tile with a pile of bloody poo next to her. A few moments ago we discovered that she was bleeding from her anus. We are worried that her artificial rectum has a tear in it (When she was a kitten her rectum was missing so she couldn't go poo. She had to have a bowel reconstruction or something like that.) Anyways, she's always struggled to go to the bathroom but has never bled. We have attemped to move her to put her into a cat-carrier to take her to the vets but she starts meowing in pain. Should we take her to the vets anyways or should we let nature take its course... Any sugesstions on how to make last little bit of her life as comfortable as possible? Oh and she's still drinking. We haven't tried food yet though. Thanks for any answers.
Answers:
Please take kitty to the Vet. She's probably meowing because she associates the cat carrier with a car ride, the Vet, etc- something that makes her nervous. Hopefully this isn't the end for kitty and the Vet should be able to do something to comfort kitty / fix the bathroom problem.
Good luck. Will be thinking about you.
Please take her to a vet, tonight, don't let nature take it's course, it could be something they can fix, put her in the carrier even if she meows and take her to the vet.
Get her carefully into the carrier and get her in to the vets, this is something she needs medical treatment for. There's no need for 'nature' to take it's course if there's a medical ability to help.

14 year old cat losing weight any suggestions on helping him gain?

My beloved cat who is 14 years old has begun to lose weight rapidly over the past few months. The vet can't pinpoint any problems other then old age. I really am open to any tricks or suggestions to help him keep as much weight on as possible to help him have the best life he can for as long as he can. SERIOUS RESPONSES only please. Thank you
Answers:
Can tuna in oil. fish and fish oil is very good for them.
please be persistent with your vet. my cat lost 7 pounds in a few months and the vet originally said there was nothing wrong. it turns out that he had a tumor in his jaw and he died shortly after i found out.
try feeding him tuna fish to supplement his food. they also like gizzards (you can feed them to your cat raw)
Get a second Vet's opinion. Cats just don't lose a bunch of weight like that.
Old age is a disease now eh? 14 is not that old for a cat. I would get a second opinion and fast before it is too late. Did you veterinarian do any bloodwork to evaluate organ functions? Typical geriatric cat diseases are chronic renal failure, hyperthyroidism and diabetes. All manageable problems that, with proper treatment, can be sustainable for years.
My cat started loosing weight rapidly and it took a long time for my vet to figure out that she is diabetic. Did they check for that?
My cat had done the same thing. I switched her to Science Diet dry cat food, on the advice of my veterinarian. Have blood work done on him, to make sure there isn't a medical problem. Have his teeth cleaned yearly. Gum disease can also cause illness.
i have a 16 yr old cat that i have been giving a can of fancy feast 3x a day to help her at least maintain her weight. if she happens to gain, then better yet. does your cat have any teeth missing? if so, and if you are feeding him dry food, then you may have to switch to canned food. that is the situation with my cat. did the vet run any labwork to determine what kind of shape his kidneys and liver are in? if not, then that is another thought
Have they checked him for diabetes, weight loss is a sign. Give him protein cause with the weight loss he's going to get tired also. Open a can of tuna I would try anything salmon, egg. Baked chicken. My heart goes out to you an so does my prayers.
I hope your vet has done bloodwork to check for a thyroid condition, or kidney problem, the two most common causes of unexplained weight loss in a cat that age. If your cat is eating readily and bloodwork has ruled out any metabolic disease, then you can try some of the high calorie supplements like Nutrical or clinicare (a liquid supplement). I would also try a general dewormer from your vet (like Bayer's Drontal), and if all else fails, seek another opinion. I have seen hyperthyroidism not show up definitively on bloodwork, but other symptoms are all consistent and more specialized tests confirm the disease. A really easy way to check for this at home is to count your cat's heart rate at a relaxed time (such as while sitting on your lap) If it is greater than 150 beats per minute at a relaxed time, your cat very well may have hyperthyroidism. If your cat has chronic diarrhea, there may be some other factors. You also may want to try a probiotic to help his digestion. Pet Guard makes a good one for cats, but there are many good ones out there. Good luck!
Is your cat eating as usual or has appetite decreased? My friend's cat -2 years of age- had leukemia and a mass growing in close proximity to the esophagus and there came a point when the cat couldn't eat anymore and lost weight. Unfortunately, the cat was put to sleep. The mass was not treatable by surgery or meds..
When my cat lost some weight I noticed she wasn't eating as much. then I found out she lost some teeth and couldn't eat the dry food anymore. I had to switch to a can of tuna everyday. She would never eat moist cat food and figured tuna was natural so she just eats it

13 week old Kitten had no problem training to use litter box now she is going out of it?

...
Little history. She brilliantly used the litter box immediatly. Then last week she started peeing in other areas. So I kept a look out and everytime she went in her box I cleaned it thinking it might have dirty and that was the problem. Nope. Now she is pooping everywhere and peeing. She still uses her litter box from time to time.
She was born in the garage and that is where she lives. Nothing has changed in there. We are always outside with her and let her wander and do what she wants.
So any suggestions on what to do for a kitten that half way uses the litter box and then goes everywhere else?
Answers:
she may be trying to tell you something. cats are alot like humans. they can get depressed and such. she may be lonely or not liking the enviroment shes in.
How big is your litter box? You're supposed to have one that is around twice the length of your cat so she can turn around and have room. If it's not big enough, she'll start to pee in other places.
Did you switch litters? Cats can be kind of picky.
Is she sick? Sometimes sick kittens pee outside the box.
Try a new box, new litter, or even a new food. Good luck!
Maybe she doesn't like that brand of litter. Maybe she doesn't like using the litter box because the litter sticks to her feet. If it seems she is going to more hidden areas to use the bathroom, try a covered litter box for privacy.
Get her checked by a vet, she could have a bladder/kidney infection.
change her litter more often, she might be an extremely clean cat.
clean your house with bio enzymatic cleaner, soak the spots she's done for 20mins in the cleaner.
alternatively, clean your house throughly and then spray a light mist of vinegar + sodium bicarb solution on your floors paying extra attention to the areas she's soiled in the past.
for a while you'll need to confine her to a bathroom/room with hard floors with her litter tray. check on her every couple of hours and let her out for a while only after she's done it. clean her tray and chuck her back in the room.
if she does it on the floors in the bathroom, use the same solution suggested to clean the areas she's soiled.
let her out to play %26 for meals but keep an eye on her, if she behaves like she's gonna do one (squat) quickly pick her up and chuck her back in the room.
good luck, it'll take time %26 patience but she's using the tray which is fantastic. it'll be fine. :-)

12 yr. old cat lost tooth?

my twelve yr. old male mixed breed just lost a tooth... Is that supposed to happen? He has had healthy teeth all his life, this is really weird
Answers:
It happens sometimes, and can be a sign of tooth decay and other problems with the teeth. Older cats, especially indoor cats, are also suceptible to diabetes, for which tooth decay is common and can signal poor sugar level control.
To be sure of the reasons, get your cat to the vet and have him checked out. With an older cat, there are so many concerns with their health that develop at their age, it's just better to be safe than sorry.
no?
mabey he got in a fight and the oather dog nocked his tooth out
No that's not supposed to happen.. You should have a professional check his teeth. Usually the ones in front look just fine, even if there's horrible dental disease in the back. If he'll let you, lift up his lips and take a look at the molars way in the back-you may be shocked by how much tartar and gingivitis is back there! Cats are very good at hiding their problems.
put it under the pillow my dog lost a tooth and i put it under MY pillow and that chick gave me like 50 dollars so put it under ur pillow
This sometimes happens, and it's ok. Just keep an eye on the gum to make sure it doesn't get infected.
Losing a tooth with age is normal, but sometimes losing a tooth may indicate kidney problems (I know it sounds irrelevant but it is a fact), so take him to the vet for blood tests (urea and creatinine among them) and a general check up.
It happens occasionally, they can get loose teeth in the sockets, or knock a tooth loose when missing a jump, or the root could have decayed. It happens sometimes.
Just make sure the cat isn't in pain, that all the root came out (a vet may have to check with a special poke tool, just make an appointment for them to do a quick mouth check). Parts of teeth left in can get infected in the jaw.

12 year old cat, really bad mouth problems?

Our cat has had some mouth soreness for a few weeks now and the other day she had some blood trickling out of her mouth. I was not able to get her into the vet until this Friday. She is walking around now with her mouth hanging open and the smell is just unbearable. We looked in her mouth today and it looks like 1/2 her mouth is just rotten; black and puss filled. Is there anything we can to help her right now, and do you think it's something the vet will be able to help without costing us a fortune? We love the cat, but are not going to spend hundreds of dollars on her. btw, we didn't neglect taking her to the vet, we live in a town with one vet, so just not able to get in. Should I prepare my wife and daughter that she may not be coming back from her vet visit?
Answers:
It actually sounds like she may just have some kind of infection. Infection smells terrible and can cause the puss and bleeding. They will probably give her some antibiotics at first to see if that helps and then go from there. With cats you cant give them stuff over the counter like you can dogs, it can kill them. They are more sensitive. Im sure it hurts her but really she is probably just gonna have to hold out till friday. I work at a vet clinic, I'm not a vet but you pick things up when you have been there a couple years.
That sounds terrible! I don't know what the situation will be but it probably will cost quite a bit. Poor kitty! I'm sorry your pet is so sick. I wish you the best and I hope the vet can do something.
wow that sounds really bad. is there any way they can squeze her in are vet dose that. idk what they could do for that. it might be and extremly bad infection. and it would take a lot of work to fix it.by the way it sounds i would say that it might be to far to save.
I am so sorry about your cat!
maybe some proxide or brush them gently with a tissue.
Aw! Pete, i'm so sorry about this. She is 12 you say? That's about that time. :( :( I am sure your vet can find something to help her but yes, it might be really expensive. (esspecially if there is only one vet around) And I'm sure he/she'll suggest to put her down instead. I hate that. :( She's in pain it sounds like. Please try to cure her. :( For the future, save up about 10 dollars a pay check for your pets medical emergencies. I do this with my babies and it really comes in handy.. until I can find some pet insurance.
Has your vet ever cleaned your cats teeth? Ours does it every few years to prevent tooth problems %26 gingivitis. If not, she will probably at least have to have some of her teeth pulled. I would normally suggest using peroxide in the meantime but I don't know how you could possibly do that! I'm so sorry! I really hope everything works out for you all.

12 Year Old Cat, her brother and sole companion died a month ago almost. She cries all the time- what do I do?

I try to spoil her with new blankets, brushings, attention and food- but she still can't stop crying. I want to be there more for her- but don't know how.
Answers:
You can try the homeopathic remedy Ignatia for her grief. You can get a vial of pellets from a health foods store. 30C is the potency suggested. Give her ONE pellet dissolved in a small amount of filtered water. Just enough water to dissolve it and take it up with an eye dropper to give to her. You can safely give her one pellet for about three days. It should help her a great deal. Take some pellets yourself if you are still grieving from the loss of the other cat.
get a new cat--new friend for her
i didnt know cats could cry but anyways, get out and go somewhere
She needs a kitty friend shes lonely adopt a male cat around her age.
She's lonely. Imagine what it would be like if your sole companion that you had spent your entire life with had suddenly disappeared from your life.
Extra attention will help, but better than that would be to find her a new feline friend. Perhaps a kitten or young cat (like 2 years old or younger) so that they can get to know each other and grow together.
Good luck. :-)
You can't replace a a close companion. She most likely has depression, some animals have stopped eating and died because of depression, If she stops eating completely you may have to force feed her and take her to the vet, try some depression medication too. What she really needs is lots and lots of attention from you all the time.
P.S lots of people will tell you to get a new younger cat, I wouldn't do it if your cat is older then three years and you introduce a kitten the kitten will be rejected for a long time even years, plus the are extremely annoying for most older cats who just want to lounge around and relax, which would add more stress to your extremely depressed cat, most older cats don't click either.
That is very sad. I would get a new kitty for a companion, but make sure that it has been tested for all the decease's possible. Such as FIP which does not show up in very young kitty's. I would not get one under 6 months Get one from someone you trust.
OMG! This hurts my feelings so much to hear. This is one of the saddest things I've ever heard, seriously... I think everyone is right, she might need a friend. I don't know, it could be bad like when you're a little kid and something happens to your favorite teddy bear. If your mom gets you another, its never ever the same no matter what.. but I really do think in your kitties situation, that it would help her to have someone new. Of course, give her as much love an attention as you can for now. And really talk to your cat, I think sometimes they understand. Maybe I'm crazy lol, but I talk to mine all the time, and she responds well.
I have a story as well. I had a cat named Sassy from the time she was a kitten. She grew up and had babies of her own, three little white ones. We kept one (I still have her now) and we gave the other two away. Sassy became very upset and started to beat the kitten that we kept, and she just became very horrible. About a week later, she disappeared, and my friends cat (who was the father of the kittens) disappeared too. I've always thought they ran away together! Strange isn't it?
Good luck with your kitty. I hope she feels better :'(
I think you are doing well, but she might be depressed. A vet
may give her an antidepressant to help her cope for awhile. It is so nice to see you care so much.
Go to your local shelter and look for a cat that is known to be friendly with other cats.I would get an older (7 years +) cat that is spayed or neutered and at least try and see if your cat and it will get along. It may take a few days, but if your cat is lonely for her brother, she will probably be happy to have a new companion.
I had 2 sister cats, both nearly twenty years old,and when one of them died, the other was inconsolable for a few weeks, but since we already have other cats, she started a friendship with one of them, but the poor girl only lived for 6 more months before dying as well, just 3 months short of her 20th birthday. So,your cat is still relatively young in cat years, and would probably love a new friend.
I would have the cat re - tested as well.I found this on a site about coronavirus in cats:
The commonly available serum so-called "FIP test" is only a test for the presence of antibodies generated against any type of coronavirus. Commercial laboratories perform the majority of these tests and there is one serum ELISA test (IDEXX) available for in-clinic use. None of the currently available tests are able to differentiate antibodies generated against FECVs (or other coronaviruses: TGEV, CCV) from antibodies developed in response to infection by FIPVs.1,2,12,19, 19a Because of this, a "positive" test means only that the cat has been exposed to some coronavirus at some time.1 It does not mean that the cat has been or is currently infected with FIPV. Coronavirus antibody titers in purebred cats are particularly difficult to interpret because very high titers can frequently be found in clinically healthy cats.
So,the cat may have tested positive, but that doesn't mean that it is infected.

http://www.vspn.net/vspnsearch/vinlibrar...
Also, have you considered getting a small dog that is already friendly with cats?
Lots of cats test positive for the corona virus...that really means nothing. It just means they were exposed to the virus-it doesn't mean they have it. Didn't your vet explain all that to you?
I wouldn't hesitate to get her another cat *if* you think she would get along with one. It may stress her out even more though.
I would take this cat to the vet and get a full physical exam...I would test her thyroid too...Hyperthyroidism can make them very vocal. She may also have a form of kitty Alzheimer and be confused.
Lots of times animals like yours act funny after a death and people blame it on depression but often it's actually a health problem that went unnoticed until the stress of the death brought it out. Get a vet check. If it's not a health problem, antidepressants may help.
A vet can give her a prescription medicine to help her feel better and get over her grief.
There is also a spray called FeliWay that you can buy at pet shops that contains a hormone that may help calm her.
Poor old girl. she must have been very bonded with her brother. Keep up with all the things you're doing.

12 year old cat bit kitten after he played too rough with his tail. The 12 year old seems to like to play by?

by lashing his tail to tease the kittens. When they get too aggressive, he stops them with a swat, hiss or in this case a bite. Should I discipline him? I think they are just establishing
territorial rights, it doesn't happen every day and we separate them when we're not home.
Answers:
Your cat has been in your life for 12 years, it is bound to have a few territorial issues. I would just watch them when they are around each other and separate them when you cannot supervise.
Maybe at twelve, your cat does not want to put up with the crap the kittens put him through! Ha ha Would you want an annoying child always pulling your hair or biting you?
Don't discipline him. He's not harming the kitten, and he's just letting the kitten know the boundaries (trust me, kittens are stubborn and could use a swat/hiss/nip every once in a while).
I foster kittens on occasions, and my adult cat does the same. Starts with a hiss, if that doesn't work, then a smack. Bites usually happen when the kitten continues to persist.
The most I do is say ''Cut it out!" and move the kitten away from the adult cat.
Kittens might just be too rambunctious for your 12 yr old cat.

10 week old kittens not litterbox trained?

I got 2 kittens yesterday and last night I found a #2 on the carpet. I couldn't tell which one of them did it, so I carried both of them to the litter box. This morning there are 2 #2's on the carpet, so obviously the two of them did the deed. I'm thinking of relocating them into a bathroom when they're not supervised but I'll let them come into the room when I'm in there supervising them (the bathroom is connected through the room). Any suggestions on how I can speed up the litter training process?
Also, I've noticed their box doesn't have any urine in it either. I need help fast! Thanks!
Answers:
This is what i've done with my past cats. IT works! You put them in the room with the litterbox the whole day (Along with food and water and a window of corse) and then they will eventually learn to go in the litterbox.HOPE THIS HELPS! :)
It's natural for cats to use the litter box. Most don't need to be trained, so I don't have much advice. Keeping them in the bathroom for now is a good idea. Everytime they make a mess, pick it up and place it in the litter box. After a while they should get the point of where it goes. Good luck. :)
new kittens should never be given the run of the house for at least a week... they need to be confined to the room where their litter boxes are..
rule of thumb: 1 litter box per cat.. and ideally 1 more in other part of the house.
where did you get them from?? if "free to good home" particularly if they were farm kittens - they probably never were litter trained.. (most farms do not have litter boxes in their barns)
if from a shelter you probably got some sort of guarantee with them - call the shelter and ask if they were using the box correctly.
remember better quality food = less poops...
i would say start to train them and reward them for stuff they do good (use the litter box) and dont do anything if they use the floor just pic it up and give them little or no attention within that hour or so
u HAVE to supervise them ALOT kittens are a **** loat of responsibility, put the #2's in the litter box and show them, make them smell it so they know what it is and its put there b/c thats where it belongs...this method i did...only once with my younger kitten Valentine she picked it up FAST...next day she was going in teh box on her own, and if there peeing on teh carpet scrub it HARD and put the box there for a couple days and dont give them any praise until they go IN the box on there own, (might require u to sit and watch them for a couple hours or more-so get comfy)
Cats naturally know how to use the litter box so verly little "training" is required. Sometimes kittens need a little coaxing so just keep them in a confined space with the litter box. When they've gone to the bathroom outside of it, make sure the cats see you put it in the litter box. If you let them smell it, usually (as I've noticed with mine) they'll try to cover it up in the litter. All babies have accidents, but I don't think it'll be a problem in the long run.
In terms of pee, I have to say that it does absorb fast in clay litter. If they were peeing on the floor, you'd be able to smell it by now and if they are then I'd just say you need to wait a bit. Usually this kind of thing works itself out.

10 points included, housing a cat?

Do you think it ill be ok that if I get a cat in the next week or so, and 2-3 months later, my house will be under renovations, the litter box scatching post etc. will have to be moved and then afer renovation its stuff wil have to be moved again. I'm not sure how the kitten will react but after 4 months of moving around the house in safe rooms it will all be over. if or details are needed, just ask... remembr the 10 points. LoL thanks. Serious answers only please!
Answers:
I will be honest with you, i did almost exactly all that and both my cats were fine.
We got caught up in major renovations, and also had to move feeding bowls and litter trays etc, but the cats were happy as long as at the end of the day they still got to snuggle in bed with me.
Just to add further insult to injury we then got a dog.....cats are still fine.
They are very resilient, and as long as they know that you still love them, they bounce back with little worry.
Good luck with it all :)
it would be best to wait in my opinion. the first few months in a new place can be stressful for a new animal. your cat would just be getting settled in and then chos. you may have some behavioral problems that depending on the cat and how adaptable to change he/she is may even continue once everything is back to normal.
I think that the kitten will adapt to the change. As long as it is given all the love and attention it deserves from you throughout the renovations. If you will be too busy to do this then you should wait until you can devote the much needed time to the pet.
In all honesty I would suggest you get a cat after the renovations have been completed and the house is again calm.
Too many cats run away from (supposedly) safe areas when there has been major upheavals in the house. You never know when someone may go into the "safe room" and accidentally let the cat out.
well. this is tricky ill try and help i think maybe wait untill u have finished your house then it will be so much happier xxx(only a geass lmao) anyway hope i helpedxxx
yes i think that would be fine because cats travel round the house anyway and dont always use the litter box unfortunately
If you have the choice, I would wait - if the cat had the choice, it'd want you to wait.
Cats don't take to change well. They just don't always show it.
Moving house (and away from mom, littermates (?), familiar surroundings) already has a big impact on a cat.
The situation that is created for it in it's new home, should then preferably be as stable as possible to avoid any stress.
I wish you wisdom.
In my opinion you should wait simply because you will have so much to do with your house you wont need added stress of feeding loving and training a kitten. If you wait you can make a special spot fix it up nice and rescue a cat and give it a nice new home. Then you can enjoy your new home and give lots of love and time to your new pet. Good luck on the house and the cat!!

1 year old cat licks 2.5 month old kitten's bum?

should i take this as a good sign? the older cat is a girl and kitty is a boy. we introduced kitty into the house about 3 weeks ago. do they like each other? usually they play fight very rough or ignore each other. i want them to groom each other and sleep close!!
Answers:
It is a good sign, your older cat is "mothering" your kitten. When kittens are newborn, they don't poop on their own, as gross as it sounds, the mama kitty licks their bottom to stimulate their bowels and swallows the poo (it's just a processed version of her own milk, after all.)
I doubt your older cat is ingesting any poo, she's just mothering him.
my other take on the situation is, if your older cat is not spayed, she may be reacting to the smell of a male. Get her spayed as soon as possible (if she's not already) or you'll have kittens before you know it. Also, get the kitten neutered in the next couple months, or he'll start marking around the house (as in peeing on the walls) and once male cats start that, it's very hard to get them to quit, even after they've been neutered.
good luck! :-)
most female cats lick kittins butts cuz that is supposed to help them crap....and most animals play ruff or ignore eachother..it is normal...belive me i know i have a cat and a dog and they do both..
Quirkyblonde nailed it.. but you may want to have both your cats dewormed. Kittens are usually born with worms... it's complicated to explain, but even kittens from the cleanest of homes will probably have roundworms when born. Your older cat could pick up some worms from grooming the youngster.
It sounds as if they are getting along fabulously... after 3 years, my two cats still yowl, growl, and hiss at each other!
Perfectly natural.
That's normal. Your cat is mothering the younger one. :)
that is normal, i had a silver shaded persian that was supposed to hate other cats when we adopted him...about 6 months after we got him my girlfriend brought home a 2 month old kitten, and the persian promptly "mothered" the kitten: cleaning it, showing it the food dish and how to clean up after eating, where the water was, etc. they were a great pair. always together.
