people who say cats don't show affection, have no personality, or hate people are OBVIOUSLY IGNORANT. don't judge cats until you know them. cats are super affectionate and very playful - especially with their owners. my kitty has to be involved in everything i'm doing! she helps me make the bed, lays by me when i make lesson plans, lays on the graded papers when i'm grading papers, sits by me when i scrapbook, plays with yarn while i knit, follows me around the house when i clean, and cuddles with me in bed and purrs me to sleep! i love her to death. dogs on the other hand (i have 2 of them) are needy bastards that are loud when they bark at 4 am cuz the wind blows, obnoxious when they bark at neighbors, and drive me crazy when they think everything is theirs, get jealous if i say hi to another pet, and beg for food every time i eat anything or drink anything... and if you want to spend the night at a friends - forget it! unless you want to mop up dog urine and scoop up dog poo from your floor...

I've had both cats and dogs throughout my life and the most devoted pet I've ever had was a cat. He was a Persian and was the most loving little guy... I had to shave him about every 6 months though to keep the shedding to a minimum. Now I have a Siamese kitten and she is just as sweet and adoring as my other cat was.
If you've never had a cat before... don't judge them! My husband's daughter was upset when she found out there would be a cat in the house. She had never lived with a cat before and knew nothing about them. Now she's attached to the cute little baby!

Cat's are my life. Always have been, always will be. There has never been a time in my life that I have not been owned by one (or more that one). People that don't like cats don't understand them. To like them does not mean you prefer them over dogs, it just means you understand them. I think some people feel intimidated by them because they present such human behavoirism. I have spent my life watching, learning and loving cats. I volunteer at my local animal shelter where I take care of both cats and dogs. Although, I have to tell you, the more people I meet, the more I like my cat!

Yes...however this is not something that you have to do on a daily bases. There is a product that you can get through your vet and it's called " Epi-Otic". It's ear cleaning fluid for cats and dogs, puppies, and kittens. You squeeze this fluid into the eat and massage the whole ear on the outside. After you massage take a cotton ball and wipe the ear out. The product is non-irritating and removes crusts and excessive cerumen.

Hmmmmm. Cats usually keep them selves clean. Are they having a problem with thier ears? A vet can clean and check a cats ears a lot safer than you. Unless your cat is a baby and gets used to you cleaning them.
You shouldn't have to. If you see "dirt" in there though, feel free to clean it out carefully, then watch for it to reappear.
Inside cats especially don't really get dirty ears as a general rule.
Often what looks like dirt is the cast-offs of ear mites though, so if the junk in there persists, take the cat to the vet and have them check for ear mites.

Are wolf spider bites harmful to cats?
We live in Houston, and there seems to be a large colony of wolf spiders habitating our property. At least once a week, I find a lovely wolf spider in my kitchen or livingroom.sometimes it is a momma carrying her babies. I am concerned because my cats LOVE to kill bugs that get into the house. I fear that they will pounce a wolf spider and it will bite them. They are not poisonous to humans, but what about cats? If you know of any tricks to keep them out of the house, that would be helpful too. I really am not sure how or where they come in from.

I saw on the news yesturday, a group of kids beat this little kitten (4 months old I think) to death with a gulf club. The kitten was just on the front lawn when it happened.. They found all the people who killed the kitten.
Are they going to charge these people with murder? Because they did murder the kitten. And if they would choose to kill a little kitty, they could choose to kill a baby?

i am moving next monday to school and can't take my cats with me. i have two but i am more worried about the younger one aspen. both are rescues, and my older one is more tough and she's a diva so she won't miss me, but aspen follows me everywhere, loves being petted, played with, sleeps all over me all the time and runs between my legs trying to trip me because it's a game for her lol. they are staying here with my dad, so no change in environment except that i won't be there. they love my dad, but aspen doesn't have the same bond with him that she does with me. with her nature and people personality, i really think she's going to get depressed. i'll come back to visit often, but it's the not same. what can my dad to help her?

I know from personal experience that cats can get depressed. My husband has 2 cats and travels for his work. He can only take one cat along. He's gone for extended periods of time (months). I would recommend that your dad give them both extra attention because the change will be tough for them if they are use to having you around. Your dad might notice the cats urinating in inappropriate places. This is one way that they might try and cope with the matter. They do make some pheromone sprays that might comfort the cats. I am no expert just a cat lover but I know that cats can really get stressed over change. Also tell him to look for decrease in appetite and decrease in urination. If these things occur then you should consult a veterinarian. I am sure they will adjust though most cats do. Good luck to you.

It is unlikely that they mourn in the human sense of the word, but there will be some behavioural changes as they adjust to the gap in their lives.
As the cats will be staying on familiar territory with your dad, whom they already know and love this will help them feel reassured. Any items of yours that are still in the home will have your scent, which they may also find comforting. Cats are creatures of habit, so ask your dad if he can try not to change the daily household routine too much, as this will cause them additional stress. In your absence, your dad will become the primary caregiver, and this will strengthen the existing bond between him and your cats.

I gently work with them on a daily basis, getting them used to physical contact with humans...grooming them, petting them, etc. Eventually, almost all of them become very affectionate and love for me to pick them up.
There are lots of resources out there that describe a cats body language. This may give you some good ideas on how to tell if your cat wants to be bothered or not. you can help i had the same problem with a month old stray kitten at first feed it like you normally do and don't rush to pick up the kitten i learned that on my own cause it just kept running away or it would scratch me to get out of my arms well after a bout a week and a half thats how long it took me stand alone one day by yourself and let the kittens explore and in about a week in a half they will come toward you and slowly reach down and pet them thats what i did and now my pet kitten adores me like crazy !!!!!!

we live in nrural area. next door neighbor is hoarding cats who use my flower beds for litter box.Urine is killing flowers, some very expensive, talked to neighbors several times, they say because we live rural there is nothing we can do. we are 70 and 73 in age, don't know how to handle this.we have lived beside these people for 43 yrs, thought we were good neighbors, asked them nicely please do something, the odor is very strong when we open a door to go outside.please help. thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Because several houses were found and condemned because of dozens of sick, dead and dying cats horded by some characters who were totally off their rockers, cats must be licensed now and you may only own a maximum of three. Should problems like this keep up in our area, I am sure similar legislation will occur.

I've been happy with Nutro-MaxiCat chicken and lamb in the 6 and 12 oz cans, with Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul in 6 ounce cans, Wellness, and some of the Paul Newman brand. You'll find these at pet supply stores or health food stores (they carry some pet foods now), but not at grocery stores. The best are probably Wysong and Evo.
Check the first 5 ingredients. Three should be meat, none of it should be byproducts, and corn should not be in the first 5 ingredients (cats don't digest corn so it's a filler that doesn't do anything for them).
Here's a breakdown for canned foods off a list I have bookmarked, it's not complete with everything on the market but you can compare brands with it. You'll see there's a HUGE variety in the foods when looking at side by side comparisons.

There are vitamin supplements especially for cats, that helps them have a healthy fur coat. The more healthy their coat is the less they will shed. Also don't forget to daily brush your cat's fur.
Experience from raising my two cats.
I don't believe there is, but you can buy a brush that will get rid of the excess cat hair that might have shedded. Brush your cat several times a day, and i think that will help!

Are there any medical risks associated with spaying cats in general?

The risk is so slim that your cat has a much greater risk of getting hit by a car or catching some feline disease.
There are always risks with surgery and anethesia with cats.
As far as the operation itself goes, it is relatively low risk.I have had 7 difference cats spayed or nutered with no problems. if you want to do spend a little extra money, make sure the vet has a blood pressure monitering machine and that he uses it.
Spaying is a very routine surgery, however all surgeries have risks. Anesthesia (spelling??) is a risk, but most vets know what they're doing there. Infection is a risk after the surgery. I think spaying is worth the risk. Spaying keeps the pet population down (God bless you, Bob Barker), and also seriously decreases a cats risk for cancer. Go to a well-established vet if you're really worried about risks.
Any surgical procedure (for animals or humans) that requires a general anesthetic has it's risks. However, medical progress has greatly reduced those risks. And the risks concerned with NOT spaying your cat are greater. As long as your cat is healthy, you should have it spayed.
My best friend had her cat declawed and sprayed at the same time, and he had a heart attack on the operating table. The vet didn't do blood work before they put him under, so if you get yours/ done make sure they do all of the proper tests needed before.
Edit: I'm not totally sure what his reaction was to. The saddest part was that it was her mothers decision to get it done, and to get both procedures done at the same time. Her and I are both against declawing, and we regularly just trim our cats nails but her mom was fed up with it, and took her cat while only giving my friend a few days notice that she mom was getting it done.

Go to a well-established vet if you're really worried about risks.

Edit: I'm not totally sure what his reaction was to. The saddest part was that it was her mothers decision to get it done, and to get both procedures done at the same time. I have delivered kittens before from my other female but I am not to sure on the exact day she got pregnant so I am wondering if there are any for sure signs she is going into labor.

In her last week of pregnancy, the mother-to-be will likely start losing some weight as the kittens need so much nutrition she can't keep up anymore (there is less space for her stomach to expand too). So If she seems thinner instead of fatter, that could be a sign that delivery is near.
All cats are different in their behavior right before going into labor, but she likely will be anxiously looking for a good spot to deliver and start making that in order. Normally they'll be pretty restless.
Physically, you can notice the kittens moving lower and more to the back in the queen's belly, leaving indentations in the flanks above them 1 to 2 days before delivery.
The queen might walk a little differently because the kittens are positioned in between her hind legs now.
If you've felt up her belly before, you can now notice there's less movement with the kittens.
There might be some milkflow already (not always the case).
But you're only sure as soon as her water breaks I'm afraid.
Best of luck, I hope mom is going to be fine through the whole process and that she'll deliver some healthy kittens!

Prepare a couple of separate boxes with towels or blankets on the bottom in a couple of SECLUDED places in your home, and just wait. This is about all you can do since you don't know when she got pregnant. A normal cat pregnancy takes approximately 60 days from conception to delivery--give or take a few days. Try to keep her somewhat cool and as comfortable as possible. Also, if possible, if she will lay on your lap and allow you to hold her, gently squeeze one or two of her nipples. If the milk starts dripping out, then YES, she is ready to give birth. Hope this gives you a little help and comfort, but she should be fine.

Are the self-cleaning kitty litter boxes worth the price?

My friend had one. The noise scared her cat %26 he refused to use it. When the box detects motion, there's a delay, then a scoop thing drags along the bottom %26 puts the used litter in the holding section. It's alot of money for what a human can do for free in a few minutes. If the cat won't use it, you're stuck with it as I don't imagine they will let you return it afterwards.
I'm just guessing, but it seems to me that eventually you would have to clean the self cleaning litter box, especially if your cat has soft stools. Just guessing, I've never had one, it's never been any big deal to scoop and clean my cat's boxes. I have seen one at a friends house, and this "arm" sweeps across the surface of the box every so often and shoves waste into a container that you empty.
why would you want one?..
My sister has one and she has three cats and she still has to clean it cuz the brush the pushes it into the disposable baggie gets clumps of poo stuck to it. maybe if you have one cat it would work better.

I didn't like mine. It took 2 years with 5 cats to burn out the motor, but I hear that's pretty long for that product. It was hard to clean because you can't immerse it. The rake kept getting poo stuck to it. And you really do have to use premium clumping litter. If you put too much in, the machine freaks out. I had this one and 4 other regular litter boxes. Some of the cats really liked it though. They used it all the time and seemed fascinated when it cleaned itself. They liked it so much that after 2 weeks without one, I've had to go out and buy another one. Sigh.
I saw one at the pet store and couldn't believe anyone would pay the money to get one of these contraptions. It sucks! The best thing is to get the cheap canopy litter box (has a lid so it keeps the stink out better, plus gives the cats privacy, they have their own swinging door) and then have the kids clean it for a chore .:)
Just imagine yourself pooping on a nasty toilet, you'd want someone to clean it for you. Thats what I tell myself when I make my kids do it. :)

I have a litter mate... I used it for around 6 months and then switched back to my cat's regular litter box... it wasn't horrible.
But it doesn't get you completely off the hook, though it scoops the clumps on it's own you'll still need to replace the litter and waste receptacles, you have to clean the scooping mechanism often because of the waste that accumulates on it AND mine got stuck a lot since I have an avid digger most of the litter would be in one part of the box so the scoop couldn't pass over it so I'd have to stop what I was doing(even if what I was doing was sleeping) to go smooth the litter so the scooper could pass over it and would stop making horrible grinding noises.
My friends bought a very expensive self cleaner and their home always smelled like cat urine. I don't think it's worth the price.
I have the litter maid and it sometimes jams when the litter is more toward one side, it scares the cats, you have to change it like every 2 days or it will overfill causing you to get your hands covered in the waste, it's very loud, the refills are a bit pricy, it's pretty messy and you sometimes have to use the scoop anyway. If I could go back I would've never got the litter maid and instead got a sifter or whatever that is, It looks like it works. :(

It's not the breed but the cat's individual personality that determines that. Cats are not born "mean". They are a product of how they were brought up. If they were abused or didn't receive any attention then they will be mean. If they brought up in a loving home then they won't be.

The more people the kitten is exposed to, the friendlier it will be - usually. When choosing the kitten, choose the one that is most outgoing if you want a very friendly cat. Other breeds that are known for friendliness include Bengals (they look like little leopards!) and Abysinnians - another Asian breed.
If you want a cat that really laid back, the kind that you can just haul around and do whatever you want (like dress it in doll clothes, carry it around like a baby, the kind that little girls would love to have around, etc.) I recommend a long-hair breed such as Persians or ragdolls.
In short, it's upbringing that is the biggest factor in personality. Research your breed of choice thoroughly on the internet (I recommend www.catchannel.com) before making a decision.
NEVER buy from a pet store, instead purchase your kitten from a reputable breeder. :-)

My cat was very protective with me and she did not like certain people around me and she was a happy cat and she kept to herself but when certain people came near me she did not like them. It depends on the cat and what their personality is like. My father at that time did not like her so she ened up hating men so when a guy came near me my cat would show him that she did not what him near me by bitting him on the hand. My Niece did not like her so she would spit and hiss at my Niece. My cat had a strange personality but she was fine around me and she would cuddle up to me and would sleep in my arms. It was just the people around me that would get her upset but when I was alone with her she was just fine.
I believe it is all the way they are raised. I have had the privilege of being owned by "the best cat in the world" named Woody. He absolutely loved everyone. He was raised in a home where he was loved unconditionally (even after coming home from work to find him hanging on my brand new living room curtains!). I lost him 3 years ago and am grateful to have been blessed with such a wonderful companion for 15 years. I then rescued a 4 month old Siamese female, Miss Isis, from a local shelter. She is very sweet, but will occasionally nip your hand when she doesn't want you to pet her anymore. She is learning "No bite", but it still happens occasionally.
There are no promises with any cat--regardless of the breed. Raise them with love and respect and they will give you the same.

Yes it should be mandatory to spay and neuter pets, and all puppy mills should be shut down. That goes for cat mills too.
I have been taking care of unwanted abandoned cats and dogs for 40 years and it's very expensive. It disgustes me how people can be and how thoughtless they are.
I have a mission in life and that is to take care of the unloved and unwanted abondoned animals. I really try my best to do my part.

that is kinda complicated, because you still have the "back-yard breeders" i know we hear the numbers but you still dont realize until you really see for yourself.

There are far too many people out there who think it's cute to see all the puppies and kitties, but they don't care enough to curb the population in our animal shelters - of which the majority ultimately end up euthanized. I personally think that most cats and dogs should be licensed, and one of the factors to consider in licensing costs should be whether or not the pet is spayed or neutered. All of my cats have been been "fixed" and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I have been taking care of unwanted abandoned cats and dogs for 40 years and it's very expensive. It disgustes me how people can be and how thoughtless they are.

Are my kittens play fighting or?
I know this question has been asked several times, and I've already looked at those answers so I'm pretty sure they're just playing, but I had an additional detail to throw in there. I have 2 ~5 month old kittens from different litters. Had the female for about 3 months now, and the male for about 3 days (recently got him as a playmate for her when classes start again).
Of course, there was the usual scared/threatened response by the female, including arched back, hissing, growling, etc. Well, they're now fighting. I'm pretty sure it's play fighting, but they do it a lot. I mean a LOT. And the female almost always hisses. They can eat from the same bowl, go to the same litter box, and be in the same room together, but when they fight it looks violent. Hissing, growling, scratching/biting. Is this normal? Should I worry about them?

Additionally, they don't yet know when enough is enough and when to stop, because they have no adult cats to teach them proper cat behavior, so one will get too rough for the other, and the other has no way to protest except by screaming and hissing.

Believe it or not, it's easier to have two kittens than just one. If you only had one, all that "killer kitten" energy would be directed at you.

Maybe your female cat is just telling your male cat thats shes been there longer, shes older, shes dominant. My old dog did that to my puppy, and I dont see why cats cant do that to each other.
They are just fighting to determine who is the head honcho in the house, so to speak. I have three cats, and they all fight and it gets loud and it always looks a little scary, but they are just playing. But since one of the kittens is new, I'm sure it will end soon enough, and they won't fight as often. It may help to pet your new kitten on its cheeks and head and then with the same hand, pet the older kitten to help exchange their scents. This will help to familiarize them to each other. I have a 3yr old male cat, Jynx. He has always been very tempermental, but I raised him since he was 2 hours old.
About 2 wks ago I got a 10 wk old kitten named Gizmo, I brought him home, took him right into "his" room (the WHS told me to keep him quarnetied to one room at first so Jynx can get used to him) and Jynx immeditely was hissing and growling and ramming the door trying to get at Gizmo. A week later, Gizmo managed to escape his room while I was at work and I came home very worried. They were just lounging on my couch and just looked at me like I was nuts. They play, i think, but its rough, they bite at each other's necks but don't make any noise, save for an occasional light yelp, but no blood or scabs I've found yet. I just worry with how aggresive Jynx is with humans that he might be trying to hurt Gizmo, it seems so soon for them to be buddys

I wouldn't call it flat-out "playing"...It looks like more of a dominance game. Jynx is teaching Gizmo that he's in charge. Honestly, you're lucky if it's just this and no spraying/marking territory (But I'm guessing, then, that means Jynx is fixed). But, it looks fine. Once Gizmo understands the ranking in the house, the playing should look more like playing (probably). As long as they continue to be wound-free and you don't hear any hissing...they're fine, don't worry about it. It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep an eye on them, just in case, but it looks like they'll do well together. You're very lucky in that respect. Enjoy them! :)

You're right they're to soon to be budds but I suggest that u should keep ur eye sharp because they seem a little aggressive to each other. When is the best time, try 2play with the cats together and then try 2 get them play eachother ..

I've had cats for years, had one that hated another cat I brought home for almost 6 months before he would accept him and even go near the other one. The one's I have currently loved each other almost the first second they saw each other.. I would watch to make sure nothing changes but they seem to be dong fine.

Are my cats evil?
I have two cats and I live in florida so there is no shortage of lizards in my house. It's something you cant help because no matter what a least a couple will find their way in everday.
My cats catch them and hide them, I never know when they have them but when I am cleaning I always find either dead mutilated lizards or half dead ones that have been torn apart pretty bad but are still alive but hurt so bad the cannot move. Its disgusting but it makes me wonder how sick are my cats for torturing the lizards..is this normal? also one of my cats I've seen him smash spiders and eat them of I've caught him playing with half dead ones like ones that only have a few legs...

Cats are predators and predators hunt for food. Your cats are just going off their natural instinct to kill for food. One of my old cats used to kill birds and bring the insides to my bedroom door. It's gross, but it's part of having cats. But you'll never have a pest problem, will you?

Nah, not evil, it's natural. Cats are hunters. That's why when you play with them, they "stalk" the toy and usually tear the toy to shreds. "Live prey" like you have in your house, is more interesting to them. My cats eat bugs on a daily basis, I think it's disgusting, and depending on what they're going for, I might stop them. I swear their only wish is to get outside to the bird feeder, they chatter and go loopy when they see the little finches.

Nah, not evil, it's natural. Cats are hunters. That's why when you play with them, they "stalk" the toy and usually tear the toy to shreds. "Live prey" like you have in your house, is more interesting to them. My cats eat bugs on a daily basis, I think it's disgusting, and depending on what they're going for, I might stop them. I swear their only wish is to get outside to the bird feeder, they chatter and go loopy when they see the little finches.

I couldn't just leave him, so I brought him into the house (separated him from Merlin--who was then 10 years old--as I didn't think Merlin would take too kindly to this kitten) and planned on finding out who he belonged to when I got home. After knocking on doors later that day--and no one in the neighborhood claimed him--I was torn about what to do. I thought that introducing this kitten to our family would really stress Merlin--he was getting old, and made it known that he didn't like the kitten and hissed at him every chance he got--even though we kept them separated. (I planned on trying to find a home for the kitten). A few days later I came home from work and found my son, Merlin and the kitten playing--and Merlin wasn't hissing. My son told me that he had a long talk with Merlin and the kitten. Apparently, the kitten had CHOSEN me. My son told me that the kitten's name was Arthur, and Merlin's apprentice. They have been great friends ever since.

Are Maine Coons compatible with other cats?
I've had my cat for nearly two years now. She was given to my family through my mothers friend. She's very sweet, and gentle and smart. She's approximetly seven years old, spayed and is an indoor/outdoor cat.
We are considering adopting another cat because a coworker of my mothers is moving out of state. All we know about the cat is that it was in the pound once before. Now if we adopt this cat, the only concern is if Sabrina (my Maine Coon) will get along with the other feline. We had another cat previously that constantly fought with her and she does not like the neighborhood cats.

A friend of many years kept a Maine coon along with two other different kinds and they got along very well. It greatly depends, though on the temperament of the cat. If you go for an older kitty, they generally are more mellow, and if you get a very young kitten, it should get along well with respect to Sabrina. Her Maine coon, who was older, got along with a young cat, a few months old. Both were males. Best to you!

they see very well in the dark, but he will more likely be afraid of being alone than of the dark. put a blanket with a wind up clock on it so it will help keep him calm. better if the blanket has your sent on it as well, but I am sure he will be o.k. Why is he in the basement? can't you bring him in the house?
The kittens need light just like any other animal. It's not good to keep them in a pitch black basement because they will never gain their eye sight. In fact it's a cruel thing to do to them.
Why aren't the cats up stairs with you or your family?. If you have a pet I would think you would want them to be a part of your family and have them socialize with people. Keeping them in the basement, they will be afraid of people and never have a normal life.
If you don't want them up stairs with you, they would be better off in a shelter.

As for being scared of the dark, I wouldn't worry, if there's even a little light, your kitten can see far better than you can. you don't need to worry about her being afraid. :-)
He is 5 to 6 weeks old!!?? and you say he isn't a kitten, he is just like a newborn baby and you need to kitten proof his surroundings just like you would a babies surroundings. I don't know how old you are and I don't want to sound like I am being mean to you, but why would you get a kitten and then keep it in the basement? That is being selfish!! He is really too young to be away from his mommy. If he is scared, it is probably because he was taken from the comfort and warmth of his mommy and put alone in a basement. If you really care about that poor baby and you can't bring him upstairs with you, then it would be so much better to find him a home where he can be around people who will love and take care of him. Why is he away from his mommy at such a young age anyway??

I have cats, an over the years they have produced many different colors of tabbys. All the orange ones though have been male until now. I have an orange female, about 4 months old, and a friend of mine insists that she is rare and worth money. I would like to know if this is true, and if there's anyone interested in buying her.

I worked at a vet and he said that is less common to have a female orange tabby but not so rare that she is worth a lot of money. Some people said that they have heard of a male calico(orang brown and white..the white is the decider on whether it's a calico or a torti) but the same vet said it is genetically impossible and basically if a calico has male organs it's a hermaphrodite.

however i have found them to be more like dogs mine loves to go for a walk with my dogs to our dam she is 1 yr old

I have a cat and I can tell you he is evil. Cute, but evil.
We exist for cats and therefore, they don't care; as long as we keep their bowls full and pet them when they want it, they're happy. Sheesh , if I had their life, I'd be happy too...:)

I think if they're young enough and have grown up using it, they might run to it like people run to a toilet when they feel that they're gonna barf. If they're old and lived a while before being trained to use it, it's not very often. (My 16 year old cat just lets it go when it hits her...)
I think it's possible. The cat knows that the litter box is getting cleaned. She doesn't want her barf ball laying around. It is really a self-preservation instinct, like covering her litter.

oh yeah - they learned how to open the refrigerator (I must have the only locked refrigerator in the aera lol) and they have fun unrolling the toilet paper rolls !@#$%

Seriously, cats are barely domesticated animals with the ability and willingness to completely destroy a home. They shred carpets, clothing, furniture, drapes and that doesn't include their scratching of walls, doors and wooden furniture. I can't begin to keep weather stripping on the front door and they have scratched the permanent finish off of that door. In addition, they stink up everything they come close to. My kids have the useless creatures, a total of 5 and my house will never be the same. I have completely given up on ever having anything nice for the rest of my life. One of the ones we have around here has scratched a bookcase my deceased father and I built. NOTHING can ever repair that, NOTHING.
I hate the useless pieces of crap that morons love to call "My precious kitty".

I'm just sitting there watching an episode of NOVA on PBS last night--and I'm just staring at my wife's 30-pound cat--Persius Leonardo Jones--and a couple of others that we have in the house.
And it got me thinking--as I watch their mannerisms and behavior--are cats people too?
They certainly have a respectible level of intelligence and such. They talk, eat, and sleep.
They play.
Some even have jobs.
So it just makes me wonder about their status as either a "species" of animal, or are they a "race" of people--just like us--but furry?

But the way I see it, we are just another primate and nothing special in the grand scheme of things. I know plenty of cats and dogs who outsmart their owners on a regular basis :)

My (deceased) cat Garlic (I know, funny name, long story) used to look at me out of the corner of her eye when she wanted to communicate that she knew what I was thinking. An extremely intelligent creature. Just because we don't know how a cat thinks doesn't mean they're not intelligent in their own way. Maybe smarter than humans. The same could be said for whales and dolphins.

right. cats are people, too. hey, dogs are people. they are just mute. cannot seem to talk very well. i have a horse named penelope and she is people, too. but she can talk. we talk late at night down in the pastor. i love penelope and she loves me. we talk about spiritual matters mostly.

No, that's just fantasy. My cat just cannot get the hang of a manual gearbox on my car, I've had to buy 'Lord Quentin Farty Pants' an automatic car, and that's cost me a lot of dosh. And also he's just been sacked from his job as Archbishop of Scunthorpe, the useless fool, so I have to support him.

Well no a cat is a cat and a human is a human. But many animals tend to take human characteristics. And sometimes humans take animal characteristics.
And if you think about it we do have a lot in common with cats. But I do prefer to groom my self with a brush instead of my tongue.

Cats aren't people, but sometimes i certainly think they act like people! My dad "argues" with my cat Jake. My dad talks to him, and he ALWAYS meows back! it's very funny. Cats show love, and distrust also.
that's really insulting to the cats. animals are better than most people, in my opinion. And the cats think that we're their servants, so telling them that they're just like us will probably have the same effect as tossing them in a filled bathtub. Nothing good could come of it.
