There are some baby kittens around my house. Their mom only comes around dark and they seem to get hungry and I want to give them something. What should I give them that would be found in regular person's fridge?

I know it's tempting, but it may not be good to leave food out because then you'll attract raccoons, and bears, and coyotes and wolves...or rats. But I'd suggest maybe giving them some deli meat like turkey, ham, and only giving it to them when they are there and make sure you don't leave anything. Meanwhile, try to call your local animal shelter so they could trap the cats and get homes for them. I got three of my cats that way...they were born in the wild, trapped, and now they're part of our family :)
You could try some milk or pudding. Kittens will eat soft dairy products like that. Or if you already have some kind of cat food, pour some milk in it to soften it up.
Unless you don't notice the momma cat around for more than a day I wouldn't do anything. If they seem old enough you could buy some wet cat food for them, but I wouldn't give them any people food.
some finely shredded turkey lunch meat, chicken, tuna. Do not give milk. milk can make them sick.
Human food is not good for kittens or cats.

Don't feed anything out of your fridge. Especially milk! If the kittens aren't old enough to eat food yet, the mother will supply that. Go buy some cheap cat food from a store and leave that out every night.

ATTN VETS/ Medical Experts?
My kitten has been having seizures. She had her blood tests done. Negative on lukemia, etc. Her blood is mostly normal. A few random ups and downs. What else could it be? Any ideas? Vet says I need to go to a specialist??

First it usually takes time to get to the "specialist" so people back off.
Im sorry to hear this . It can really go either way with seizures. In most cases just like with people its just bad wiring in the brain.
Pets do get epilepsy and becomes very noticable around the age of 1 1/2 - 2 years old.
Head trauma causes seizures. Blood clots tumors any thing around the brain.
Poisons can cause seizures, even an allergic reaction.
There really is no cure for seizures just like a person you will have to try different meds and find one that works. I do know of dogs that had seizures for a couple of years then just quit having them and no sign in years of having them. Others start and never make it to a specialist. A recent one died within a few days of having his first seizure. The day before going to the specialist.
Your best bet is to discuss meds with your vet and not to put any added stress on the pet. Stress can also cause seizures so you don't want to create a bigger problem.
Again Im sorry. Just love your pet hold them through their seizure so they don't hurt themself and be strong for them.
THEN GO TO A SPECIALIST RIGHT NOW!! don't wait...what your cat has may be fatal!

DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYBODY FROM THE INTERNET WHO OFFERS MEDIACAL ADVICE! You do not know who they are, just who they claim to be. See the specialist if they is what your vet suggested. He/she went to school a lot longer and has more experience with your cat than anyone on the internet.
I have a dog who has seizures, and you're right. You do need to go to a specialist. Each seizure causes more brain damage.
Here's something you can try, just until you can get the cat on a regiment of phenobarbitol. Try giving kitty some sugar water. The first sign my dog is going to have a seizure is that he starts to shiver. When the shivering starts, we give him just a quarter teaspoon of sugar in some warm water. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not. If not, we get to go get his pills and the syringe. Then he's drugged and sleepy most of the day. He takes pills every day to keep them under control, but he has his triggers. Loud noises, like a car backfiring can bring one on, for example.
It's tough having a special needs animal. It can also be expensive. It's worth it, though. If you and your vet can find away to control it, then it makes life a lot easier.

Attention Cat owners who feed raw/grain-free?
I feed my cat a diet of 1/3 Nature's Variety Raw Instinct- Grain free kibble, 1/3 Nature's Variety Raw frozen medallions, and 1/3 Wellness Grain-Free canned food.
My 6 month old kitten is very healthy and growing strong... However, I have noticed that she still begs for food... wanders the kitchen meowing VERY loudly...
She's eating healthier/better than most cats in America (especially a grain-free, raw diet). Is this normal kitten behavior, or is she still lacking some essential nutrients????

Your kitten just may have a heartier appetite than your other cats. On a meat diet you don't ever have to worry about unnecessary weight gain. I have three male cats that eat varying amounts of food and not the same from one day to the next. I use a home-prepared raw meat diet and canned food. So there is always food around for the hungriest cat to clean up when one cat's appetite isn't that great at any one feeding.
I just read a book by Elizabeth M. Hodgkins, DVM who worked for the Hill's company for 15 years and now is completely a convert to using a raw meat diet for cats. She is also a breeder of Ocicats and weans the kittens to the raw. She feels that 90% of current cat veterinary problems are related to inappropriate diet.
The book was available through my county library system. It does not include "recipes".
My cat will beg for food if she still has a full bowl. You may just have a very piggy cat.
If you want to be sure take the little one to the vet, discuss the diet and make sure that you are feeding it the right portions. A 6 month old is still growing so it is important to ensure she is eating a well balanced diet.

There is nothing special about kitten food - manufacturers say it has 2-4% more protein - a totally insignificant amount. All the quality foods contain that amount of protein anyway and it is MEAT protein. Corn counts as protein (and now we have learned that even plastic is put in pet food to raise the protein content) and corn is not an appropriate food for a cat whose diet should contain 60% quality meat protein.
Does a mother cat bring her kittens special "kitten mice" when she weans them? A ridiculous concept!

Usually at one year of age they dont require the kitten food anymore, the regular cat food will do. I use to give my cat canned food, but once they get use to it, they not only gain more weight when adults, but they dont want anything else, and the dry food is also better for their teeth. It was hard to get my cat to just dry food, but now he is doing better, lost weight, and has more energy.
When it is 1 year old you should change its food.

If she is not in good health, your vet will be very careful and this will improve her health. Cats can just keep on and keep on having kittens. Do her (and yourself) a favor, get it taken care of as soon as you can. Your vet can tell you if she is really to old.I know eventually she would be but you have a while to go.
