I would suggest a well-written essay (at least 2 pages) on why it is important to you to have a cat, and what you think is involved with having a cat as a pet. Talk about what responsibilities you will have, and what you plan to do to care for this cat. Will you be cleaning the litterbox before school, when you get home, and before bed EVERYDAY for the rest of the cat's life? Will you be giving the cat a flea bath when it gets fleas? Will you pay for (or work off) anything the cat damages that does not belong to you? These are all things you need to discuss with your parents. Are you ready to commit the next 15-20 years of your life to this cat? This kitten will grow up quickly, and it will be your responsibility for the rest of it's life. Are you ready for that? Will you be going to college? if so, will your parents agree to tend to the cat while you are there? Will you get married someday? Will you agree to NEVER marry a man that doesn't accept your cat and treat it kindly? (this might limit your choices in men) Do you plan on having babies? Will you always love your cat, even when you have a baby? Will you be scared the cat will hurt it? If so, are you willing to put that part of your life on hold until after the cat dies of old age? These are serious questions, and they come with pet ownership. You have to be SURE you are ready before you can ever convince anyone else that you are. Think hard, and be smart, and then approach the subject with your parents wisely, and with good reasons.
I don't know how old you are so i wont say get a job, but earn money some how and prove you can be responsible for one. Pets cost money- food, litter, treats, toys and annual expenses like shots, and start up costs, like cat littler box, collar, flea treatment, tags, and getting it fixed. Plus, what will you do if the cat gets sick? who will watch it if you go on vacation, who cares for the dog? Are you SURE the dog likes cats?
Research on-line the price of everything the cat will need, and if you can afford it then ask your parents for it. With that cuddly cute kitten comes responsibility, are you really ready for it?
