Best way to get rid of fleas with out using a bug bomb?? ihave tried everything i can think of-sprays,bath...?
Answers:
We fed our dog brewers yeast garlic tablets.
She NEVER got fleas or ticks.
it also is very good for them.
Are they on your PET? If so you should be treating the pet as well as the house. You cannot get rid of them from the house until you also treat the pet as the pet will be re-introducing them into the house!
try frontline plus it's number 1 recommended for pets
Advantage will work because it worked for my cat.
The sprays and stuff are cheap and don't usually work. If they are on pet and house (which they are if pet is ever in the house) You need to treat the pet with a good flea treatment (advantage, frontline) AND use something in the house or you will just have a cycle of fleas reinfesting over and over
If theyre on your pet, use frontline. It kills fleas that land on their bodies within a few hours of contact. It lasts for about a month on your pet, then has to be repeated.
If theyre in your house, vacuum really well under chairs sofas in cushions rugs etc, then throw out the bag immediately after youre done. Do this every day, twice a day. Some people say if you put a shallow pan of soapy dishwater under a spotlight in the kitchen the fleas will congregate there and die in the water.
I used something called MYCODEX PLUS aerosol room spray. It kills all 4 stages of the flea, including the pupae stage which is a cocoon that is resistant to bombs powders and sprays, most products on the market do not kill the pupae stage, this one does. I got it at my vets, but you can get it on line. It worked. The pupae is the main reason people have such a difficult time getting rid of fleas, why they seem to keep coming back after you thought you got rid of them. I would recommend vacuuming every day for a few weeks, and removing and sealing the bag each time. You can get rid of a lot of the pupae in your carpet this way. Good luck, it usually takes more than one attempt to get rid of fleas. EDIT Pupae can live in your carpet for months, and hatch fleas when stimulated by heat or vibration.
Fleas and other insects are mutating (meaning more and more are hatching that are resistent to most killers). Dips usually do no more than keep the fleas off for one day. If you are having a very hard time getting fleas off your animal and out of your house you will have to be aggressive.
There is a pill you can get from your vet that can kill fleas almost instantly. It is more aggressive than Frontline, Advantix, etc. I can't think of the name of it but your vet should know.
Get rid of all pet bedding and fabric toys. That dog bed may have cost you $50 but if it has fleas it has to go. Any blankets that are salvagable should be washed in bleach and hot water
Use flea killer all around your house and yard. You should keep kids and animals away from spots you are treating. Get the worst places first. This may mean not going into this particular area for a day.
Use a good flea killer and prevention. Over the counter stuff will not do the job. You will have to get it from your vet. Getting rid of adult fleas is one thing but the real enemy are the eggs.
If fleas are in the house, you will have to treat that or the fleas and their eggs will continue the problem. If you do not want to use a flea bomb, there are several types of traps that use heat to attract the fleas. I have posted links to two types that are available.
If you have not tried something like Advantage or Frontline, those are most common. But there is another all natural way, and that is to give the brewers yeast (not brewers garlic yeast as one person listed, as garlic is a no-no for cats, and besides, I don't think there is such an item.)
Brewers yeast is not bakers yeast, and is usually found in health food stores. Fleas do not like the taste of the blood of an animal that has taken brewer's yeast.
Brewer's yeast worked to get rid of the last of the fleas my cats had. But I also 'bombed' the house afterwards.
