Can big cats and baby cats get along ? If so how long does it take for that to happen?

I had my cat tiger for three months and today we added a new kitten robin who one month should I worry about them being together
Answers:
i have 2 female cats at a year old and i got a little kitten for my son he was tiny when we got him. my older cats hissed and growled at him but now they are fine and run around the house together. then i got another one for friend and ended up keeping him as well because hew as unwell and my older ones did the same again now the cuddle up together on the sofa. just as long as you keep a eye on them i dont think there should be any trouble. good luck with your new addition.
(plus my friend got another kitten my little ones brother)
yes,if the baby cats can already walk%26eat
Generally adult cats find kittens annoying, lol. I have done this and almost always they get used to each other. Yes do keep an eye on them and make sure you give your older cat more attention and some extra treats.
well at the beginning they will probably fight make sure they dont draw any blood.yes a big cat and a small cat can get along. i have a 3 years old cat then we added a 1 month old kitten sure they where fighting but now they get perfectly olong with each other. soon your cat and kitten will get together and groom each other. u should not worry about them being together if u separate them they will never be friend dand play together they will just fight
hope it works

Can anyone tell me why my cat goes CRAZY over green olive juice??

I dont know what it does to him, but I think he likes it alot...does anyone know why or whats it in that he would like? I spilled olive juice on a shirt, put it in the laundry basket and he jumped in the basket and rolled around on the shirt, he did that when I spilled some on the kitchen floor too..weird.
Answers:
All my cats have been crazy about olive juice..not exactly sure what is in it that they like so much. I thought maybe there was some sort of plant extract used in the juice that might be in the mint family as catnip is in the mint family.
I dont really know but you should take him to the vet olive juice probably has something in it that is like cat nip so I would just play it safe and take him to the vet

Can anyone tell me WHY cats gorge and then throw up?

I feed my cat a minimal amount of dry food, and 9 out of 10 times he will wolf it down, and then vomit. Any advise on this?
Answers:
I had a cat that used to throw up constantly especially after he wolfed down his food. I fed him Iams hairball control (I feed all my cats this and rarely have hairballs) and that seemed to help. I also gave him the hairball gel a couple of times a week. The vet recommended it and said sometimes they have hairballs lodged deep in their intestines so this helps lubricate things. If your cat goes outside you might want to consider having him dewormed. Inspect the cat vomit (I know this is really disgusting) because you can sometimes actually see a worm and then you can take it to the vet and they can diagnose it better. Next time you take your cat to the vet mention this problem to him/her so they can check him out for other problems too. If you notice weight loss take him in right away! I hope this helps and I'm sorry you got a puker. Stock up on carpet cleaner!
cats puke because its hot and they cant digest thier food.it happened to my 2 cats dosens of times .just put a fan near your cat when it is asleep it it will digest thieir food.hope this helps.
Try a bit of hairball gel on the paws and the nose. Hopefully kitty will lick it off. His gut may be clogged from something like a cord that is wrapped around a roast or even dental floss. See if that helps his tummy. Try feeding a food for sensitive stomach. I feed Royal Canin Special 33 (purple bag) but the vet clinics sell some foods, and also Science Diet makes a food for sensitive stomach.
This probably isn't the case, but it was with my cat.. You said you are giving him a minimal amount of food, so is he on a special diet? He may think he's not going to get all the food he needs or is actually so hungry that when food comes he eats so fast that he makes himself sick. Try giving him more food at one time and see if he slows down his eating pace. If that doesn't help try special foods for sensitive stomachs and/or hairball treatments. If this doesn't clear up I would suggest you take him to the vet because that is definitely not healthy for him to be getting sick so often and it should be checked before he becomes malnurished.
Have you talked to your vet? Your cat may have a sensitive stomach or some other medical issue. I have had cats all of my life, and currently own two, throwing up on a regular basis is not normal.
Are you by any chance feeding him Whiskas, Friskies, or any of those other grocery store brands? They are really bad for your cat. It's so worthwhile to spend a bit more on your cat food so he's getting all the nutrients he needs and not a bunch of crap. Cats like the taste of Whiskas but it has minimal nutritional value. I had two cats years ago who both vomited up their food everyday when I fed them Whiskas. It stopped as soon as I switched to a good brand from the pet store. I now feed my cats Wellness brand and they seem to be super healthy.
If you are withholding dry food from your cat, rather than leaving the dry out for him to eat "at will", YES, he will do this because he never knows when he's going to get any more. Try, first of all, getting the hairball formula, and feeding him that for a week or two. If he likes it, and if he's NOT vomiting--there's your answer, keep feeding him the same thing. Also, leave him a larger dish of dry food that he can "pick at" at-will, and I think you'll find that this (the wolfing it down %26 vomiting) will stop--or slow down considerably. If this doesn't solve the problem, you may have to take him to your vet as he could have some kind of blockage that is keeping the food from going down %26 being digested normally. I doubt that this is the case as mine will do this occassionally if I feed him something he really likes--he'll wolf it down like a dog, then puke! Cats systems aren't made like a dogs and cannot handle an enormous amount of food at one time. But, DO try leaving him a bowl of the dry food out to eat at "at will". If he just keeps going back (eats %26 vomits, eats %26 vomits), my guess is--he has worms and needs to be seen by your vet. Best of luck with your little glutton.
one of my cats will do this if he is out of food and I put some down. he thinks that he needs to eat it quickly and this makes him throw up. try leaving food out all the time. this is what i do and they still only eat the recommended amount but do not throw up from eating too fast. good luck.
One of mine would do this and a friend suggested moving the foodbowls away from the waterbowl. It helped.

Can anyone tell me when a seal bicolor ragdoll kittens color starts to come in?

I am getting a seal bicolor kitten in a couple of days and I'm wanting to know when their color starts to come in. She is about 9 to 10 weeks now. But only her tail and ears really have color. She also has the white mask on her face. But no brown yet.
Answers:
The traditional Ragdoll kittens are born completely white (color on these kittens starts to come in after several days) while the non-traditional Ragdoll kittens of the same litter are born with full color.
I had a (seal point) siamese kitten that we didn't know was siamese until she was about 5 or 6 months old.
i dont know much about this but from what i do know ..just listen to pey

Can anyone tell me what i need to have done to my cat when i move to Denmark?

We're moving to Denmark at the end of the year and are taking our cat with us. Can anyone tell me what he needs to have before we go, i.e. injections etc...?
As far as i can see (i may be wrong!) he only needs a pet passport, if we wish to bring him back into the UK within 6 months (which we don't).
Anyone?
Answers:
go to the defra website it is very informative when it comes to this sort of thing . but i can tell you you will need your cat vaccinated against rabies / blood test / micro chipped / get a pet passport and travel with your cat under the P.E.T travel scheme - all info regarding this on the defra website.
Danish Lessons?
How is he going to understand the other cats in the neighbourhood?
Or you could leave them with me. I love cats! (they taste soooo good) MEOW
it depends.that's all you'd need...which may mean to make sure all shot are up to date.but if the i gets sick in cars or anything like that there's a medication that you can usually find at your vets office...if works great...:-)

~Tiffany~
Contact DEFRA, and the equivalent in Denmark, and find out from them.
He might need a pet passport to travel full stop whether you plan to bring him back or not. Your vet will be able to advise, either way I would vaccinate against rabies and make sure routine vaccinations and flea/worming are up to date.
they shouldnt need anything maybe a mild tranqualizer talk to the vet to see what they think

Can anyone tell me how to stop my cat from scratching the carpet?

I've only had him a short while, he's a rescue cat and fully grown. I have bought him two scratching posts so far and he isnt interested in either!! Help! he's ruining the carpet!
Answers:
This saved my carpet and furniture: buy a scratching post or similar which is made from Sisal Rope -its a scratchy, light tan colored thin rope. Something I had once was just a flat board that was wrapped in this rope and had a loop at the top so you could hang it off a door handle or something. My cats, however, preferred it just lying flat on the floor. They also liked the standing scratching posts but only the ones made of sisal. Then get some good dried catnip and rub it in really well into the sisal rope on the scratcher. My cats would hardly leave the thing alone, and the first thing they would do upon awakening from a nap or after eating, or using the catbox, was go up give the scratcher a good workout.
Buy a separate (cut out) piece of carpet and let him scratch that. You could sprinkle some catnip on the cut out piece!
a water spray, so when hes being naughty spray him with a little bit of water. thats what my bro did as he didnt want his kitten jumping on the table
Trim his claws monthly - learn to do it yourself - a groomer can show you or have a groomer or vet do it. Are your scratching posts the kind that have jute rope? Those work better - cats prefer them to the carpet ones. When I caught my cat scratching on the sofa, I calmly picked him up, carried him to the post and demonstrated. He joined right in and it was like a game. He uses it all the time now. Another option is Soft Paws, the covers for cat claws. I haven't needed them but some people swear by them.
balls of yarn sprinkled with catnips. Good luck
Get a squirt bottle with water and squirt him once or twice in rear when he starts to scratch...it won't take long before he realizes that if he scratches the carpet, he'll get wet.
I wouldn't buy him a cut out piece of carpet because if he thinks it is okay to claw it then he'll think it is okay to claw your carpet and won't understand. Keep on trying different scratching posts, different cats like different things. Get his paw and scratch it against the scratch post and then give him a treat. I give my kitten Whisker Lickins' .
Make it a scratching post with a base on it %26 cover it with an old piece of carpet.
Buy a small water pistol and when you catch him/her clawing the carpet just spray him/her and it will soon get the idea..
If it's in a particular place that he scratches the carpet, put down some duct tape. Cats don't like scratching that as their claws get stuck. If not then use a spray bottle of water whenever you see him doing it.
I make the same recommendation to people all the time. A single cat, especially if he is alone for long periods of time will become bored. I have two cats (brothers) and they are much less of a problem since they can play with and annoy each other whenever they want.
We have plenty of things for them to scratch but sometimes they will scratch the carpet, anyway. They especially like to scratch natural wood like tree bark so you might try finding a thick piece of bark covered wood like a tree limb for him to use.
He needs toys and climbing towers as well as window perches so he can see outside. My guys will sit and look out the window for hours and hours. If weather permits, leave the window open a bit so he can hear and smell the outside, too.
Getting a few things scratched up a bit is part of having a cat. Keep him entertained and groomed and he should not be a problem.
.
Every time you see him doing it take him to the scratching pole, persevere with it and he'll get the message... you could also try spraying him with a water pistol when you see him doing it.he soon get the message! good luck
You can get a cat deterent from the local pet store that you can put down on your carpet to deter him from scratching at it.
Hope this helps.

Can anyone tell me how to stop my cat overgrooming?

Answers:
cats generally only groom if they feel dirty. try brushing it every day around the same time so it learns that you will groom it as well so it doesnt have to do it as much. other then that just let it do what it wants i'm sure the cat knows what it needs and wants
The normal adult cat spends over a third of it's waking day grooming. Aside from the obvious benefits like ridding themselves of parasites and keeping the coat clean, cats also find grooming therapeutic in helping to relieve tension. Some sensitive cats use grooming as a comforting, diversionary activity when faced with some kind of challenge or perceived threat.
You haven't given any details about your cat or the extent of her grooming, so it's difficult to know what advice to offer. Do you mean that she is grooming to the point of inflicting small wounds on herself?
If she hasn't already been seen by a vet, then make an appointment for her. The vet can check for parasites, allergies or even diet sensitivity. If the vet rules out any medical causes then you need to consider why she is feeling stressed. There is a condition known as psychogenic "nervous" dermatitis and your vet will be able to advise you further on how to treat it.
Maybe the fact that your cat seems to 'over groom' is simply caused by a lack of other things to do.If your cat stays mostly indoors, it's good to play with him at least 15-30 minutes every day, and make sure he has something to play with while you're away. And even if your cat has the possibility to go outdoors, it's always good to show him some attention. To buy toys you can buy some in any pet shop, or, if you don't feel like buying something you can get some string and a cork to make your own toy. Simply cut a long piece of string and tie the cork to it. You can make your cat run after it or you can tickle him with it, therefore making him twist and turn to grab it. You can also buy one ore two brushes to groom him yourself. Most cats enjoy this practise and your cat will probably appreciate you doing this for him. But if your cat seems pretty happy just grooming himself, then you should probably let him. It gives him something to and it makes sure that he isn't the reason your place is dirty. And don't worry: most cats do spend their time grooming, sleeping and eating!
One of our cats was overgrooming - he even started developing bald patches on his legs. We read about it and apparently it was stress related. We gave him lots of fuss and played with him more than usual to make sure he wasn't bored. Eventually, he stopped overgrooming and his fur grew back.
Over-grooming? I don't think there's such thing. Maybe your cat is very vain. But if it's a hairball problem you're concerned about, try asking your local pet store about hairball remedies.

Can anyone help with a very stubborn cat who won't stay out of the trash?

This cat hasn't responded to vinegar, loud noises, punishment, etc. I want to try a scat mat, but they are ridiculously expensive to only use a couple of times until the habit is broken and I can't find a used one around me. Any ideas?
He's a bengal cat, btw.
Answers:
What is in your trash that your cat is so interested in?
Here are some closing trash cans in various sizes that may work for you. I'm sure there are more reasonably priced ones at places like Walmart or Target. They are easier than trying to keep the cat from going after last night's chicken carcass.
:)
http://www.crateandbarrel.com/utility/ho...
Another alternative, depending on your situation, is to booby trap the trash using a tray or a place mat and a can of pennies or a metal pot. When the cat tries to go for the trash the mat or the tray falls taking the pot or the can of pennies with it. The sound scares the cat.
I prefer the closing lid trash can as booby traps are not always dependable and frightening the cat too much can have unexpected bad consequences. Other alternatives include those trash cans on rails that pull out from beneath the sink.
Put something he does not like there.
Like dogs, if they dig, you put there poo in the hole. ( Wierd how it really works!!)
get a garbage can that has a top that is not so easily removed
Put a lid and lock on the trash. or send me the address.
Buy a garbage can that fits under the kitchen sink.
Try spraying bleach or hot sauce on top, they do not like it.
We had this problem. We brought a bigger more solid bin with a pedal lift lid. This stopped them - now they just use the bin as a seat and sit on top of it to eye off what is on the kitchen bench!
Cats do not like the smell of citrus. And if that isn't effective for you, try sprinkling some black pepper or Cayenne pepper on the trash, either should induce sneezing and possibly burn their nose temporarily.

Can anyone help me with this?

My daughter lives in Washington state and has a pet cat. She cannot keep it where she is living at this time and I offered to keep it here at my house for her as she really loves her cat and does not want to give it away. One problem. I live in Montana. Is there a way that her cat can be sent here to Montana from Washington state? If yes, how do I go about doing it and what is the cost.
Answers:
First, let me say what a nice mom you are for taking in your daughter's cat. Is there anyway one of you could visit the other? The best way to transfer a pet is via car in a "pet taxi" with stops to use the litter box, and give water and food.
You could also fly with the cat inside the plane-many airlines allow small pets in their carriers (the small ones) to place the pet under the seat. This is better than the cargo hold for many reasons, as someone else already explained.
I would have your daughter call her vet to see if there are other alternatives or if they have suggestions.

I found that Atlas Movers has a website explaining the different methods of moving pets. Go to
http://www.atlasworldgroup.com/howto/pet... to learn more.
Good luck!
no.Try
Yes, but it will cost you! You can fly an animal but it has to be approved by the airline and in one of those hard plastic carriers with the metal doors. I believe that you have to purchase a ticket for it, however it will be flown in the cargo hold. This is very dangerous for a pet, and the airline will only agree to do it during certain months due to extreme heat/cold etc. Beware that many pets die in the cargo hold. Your best option is to either take a weekend trip out there and take it back with you, or have her bring it home on an upcoming break. If you must fly it, call your preferred airline and ask about rates. Call as soon as possible because airlines only allow a certain number of animals on a flight at one time.
She can ship it to you on a plain. Airlines have different prices.
If she has a pet carier, you can advertise for someone in her area that is traveling your way, to bring it.. some of the businesses that do this are rental car companis, and u haul transfrs trucks and eqmt. as well. you can also contact moving van companies and they will see if the truckdriver coming your way will meet you..it will help to calculate the travel time, and see if any of these ideas will work.. also she can contact her vet, as she will have to have the cats vacinnation records up to date, and have her get a sedative for traveling.cat scan survive well in these conditions, just make sure the temperatures are comfortable.. I do not know if she can put it on a bus, either,, that might work.good luck.

Can anyone help me with how to stop a cat from crapping on the floor, even though it has a litter box??

Answers:
There are usually two reasons. First is a medical reason. There could be a problem in defecation that makes them associate the litter box with pain. The second involves the litter box itself. Cats are normally very fastidious, so when something like that happens, it is often some type of problem. For litter box issues, I have posted a link that may direct you in the right response.
For a medical problem, that is an issue for a vet.
However, if you have two cats, and only one box, that often is a set up for problems.
You may need to take your cat to the vet, cats usually don't defecate outside their boxes without a reason. Is the box clean?
You may need to get a seperate litter box. Some cats don't like to pee and poo in the same box. That could be the problem.
Cats are usually very, very good about learning to use the litter box on their own and keeping with it. When they go outside of it there's always a reason. Either there has been changes in their enviorment and they're stressed and it's their way of acting out, their litter box is messy, they don't like using the same box, or there is a medical reason.
read Cats for dummies Chapter 10 Vs. 12

"any cat who shitteth on thy floor shall be stoned until dead"
cats are very clean animals the don't like to be dirty u has to put his nose in the sss.. every time he do it in the wrong place %26 u will see the results
Is the box clean? Does it have a cover? if so, remove it.
Is it in a high-traffic area, and not a quiet, private place?
Is it near her food dish?
If she's older it could be health-related.
There is a product called Cat-Attract it's a cat litter- I have used it once and it worked good.
Is she declawed? Often the scratching process in declawed cats hurts and can reopen declaw sites.
The fact that you call your cat "it" instead of he or she tells me maybe your cat is having a protest of some sort...are you a thoughtful %26 caring owner?
Cats are very psychological animals.
Does kitty like you? Do you leave her alone all day?
Good Luck...
You don't say how old the cat is, or where she's going instead of the litter box.
Make sure you use a good stain and odor remover, like Simple Solutions or Nature's Miracle, which are widely available. You must get the odor completely removed so he or she won't be unnecessarily tempted to repeat the mistake.
Take him to the vet to insure that there are no underlying health issues. Your vet will also be able to talk to you in depth and better assess the problem and provide advice or treatment.
Correct him with a sharp verbal command and a loud clap of the hands IF you catch him at it. Otherwise, all correction is futile.
Animals do what works. Try to think like a cat. What he is doing is not necessarily spiteful, but it could be. If so, reducing the number of changes (type of litter, type of boxes, number of boxes, type of soap used for cleaning, amount of playtime, etc.) in his world is a great way to start. Make sure his litter boxe(s) is scooped daily.
Failing all of these, try keeping a water-filled squirt gun in the fridge and bringing it out when you get home in the evening. Use it if you catch them him in the act!
Good luck!
buy a new kind of litter of clean the box as soon as he goes

Can anyone help me accept my cat's recent death?

Last night, my cat, Tiger, deceased after a long battle with liver illness. But now I feel so helpless and alone... I have two other cats, but neither of them are as affectionate as Tiger had been. I can't stop crying. Any advice?
Answers:
it's a difficult time for you. Let yourself grieve it will take a few days or weeks. We never forget the ones we have loved
------------------------------...
They will not go quietly, the pets who've shared our lives. In subtle ways they let us know their spirit still survives. Old habits still can make us think we hear them at the door Or step back when we drop a tasty morsel on the floor. Our feet still go around the place the food dish use to be, And, sometimes, coming home at night, we miss them terribly. And although time may bring new friends and a new food dish to fill, That one place in our hearts belongs to them. and always will.
~ Linda Barnes ~
Do you know the rainbow bridge poem? It is helpful. google rainbow bridge poem. I am sorry but you wouldnt have wanted Tiger to go on in pain
i am so sorry! i will deffenatly be praying for u i kno how u feel, my fish died and i loved him dearly! just remember that he is in a good place right now and i kno u miss him but he is a lot happier now and he loved u and wants you to be happy! god bless!
i think you have already accepted it dead so that u asked this question, but i feel the dear ones never dies as they keep their living memories in our mind.
it takes time--just give yoursrlf the time that is needed-everyone is diffferent. just try and remember the good, happy times and it will help. it is very difficult to lose a beloved pet. remember the rainbow bridge- you will see your baby Tiger ther when the time comes
I'm so sorry! My cat deceased in March from a Liver problem. It's never easy, no matter how many times it happens. I suggest you read some good books, (read them out loud to your dog, if you have one and your cat's spirit).
Also think about getting another cat, and other possible topics. It's not necessary to stop crying. It will stop on it's own, it time. I really sympathize with you, Sweety. But like lost relatives and lost loved ones, your cats will always be with you, in spirit, in memory and in your heart. And when you get another one, even if it's a kitten, you'll forget about the loss, even with out realizing it, because you'll have a new fuzzy friend to love.
God, this question is hard. I still miss China, who I had for 14 years and lost almost 10 years ago. All I can tell you is to know that Tiger is no longer in pain and is in a better place. Luckily I now have 1 very affectionate cat and 1 "when I am in the mood" affectionate cat. I wish I could help you more but remember the good times you had together and know he is waiting for you.
I am sorry for you loss. Today was 1 month since My baby Cedrick passed to the rainbwo bridge. We were met to be together and I miss him dearly. It is a difficult time. I still cry. His brother is great, but he is not Cedrick. I started feeling guilty of things I did and have not done to my baby. They love us and we have given them great love. Cedrick found a way to tell me thank you a couple days before he passed. He looked at me, I had my hand n him. He licked me a few times and then we looked at each other. the other days I was thinking and he knew that memory would comfort me ... Cry as much as you need and do remember all the good times
I created a memorial for Cedrick www.cdrick.critters.com
Big hugs
Of course you can't stop crying, it's only been a day. Go with the flow, cry as much as you need to cry. Also there are groups for people who have lost pets, and it would probably help you to go to one, and share with others how much you loved your cat. Ask the ASPCA, if they have any referrals to such a group. It will take time to get back to feeling better. What you're doing is normal and healthy, cry until you can't cry anymore, and then you'll be okay.
i can understand how you feel death is a sad reality us animal loves have to deal with often and it never gets any easier. i just paid $850 to save my pet ferret because i couldn't bare the thought of lossing her. there is know quick fix when it comes to greiving everyone is different. one day you will wake up and when you think about your cat you wont want to cry, instead thinking about her will but a smile on your face. just give you self time.
Don't hold back tears. let them flow. Listen to a sad song, or one he would snuggle up to you with. Cry and cry untill you can't anymore. then think of happy times. hang pictures of him and laugh when you think about the time he fell in the toilet or climbed up the screen door. Don't live in the past, but rather brave up for the future pets. Another thing, dear, don't get pets if you can't handle deaths.
I know how you feel. I had to put my kitty down on Monday because he had an illness that his little body couldn't fight off. I think time and love will heal all the wounds. What I keep trying to tell myself is that I did the right thing for him every step of the way. I took care of him, showed him love and affection, paid for the best treatment and when the time came, made the right decision for him not to be in pain and suffering anymore. I'm sure Tiger knew that you loved him and did the best for him and I'm sure he would want you to take all the love in your heart you had for him and remember him fondly and put it towards helping another little critter like him. Don't forget that you have 2 other little guys that need your attention as well. Time will eventually heal your wounds. I'm very sorry for your loss. I wish our little critters could live as long as we did.
You can't replace your Tiger, but you can remember him and all the good times you had together.Another thing you can do is make a shadow box of pictures of Tiger and things that he liked a ball or toy mouse (my cat had his favorite stuffed duck). I know it sounds very unthoughtful but think about getting another kitten, look at a local shelter. Tiger would want you to move forward and not be sad. If you decide to get a kitten from a shelter you will be saving a life.
It just takes time. My cat that I had since I was 8 (I'm 24) died in December. It took me a good 2 months to really get over it. What I did to help, about a month after he died, was I made a scrapbook of all of the cute pictures I had with my cat. I was a good healing process.
4 months after he died, I got a new cat from the shelter (my old cat was adopted too). She really has helped fill the void. While she can't replace him, I love her to death and don't get upset about my old cat anymore. I think he'd be happy :)
So sorry for your kitty loss.
im sorry to here that you cat passed a way. but just look at this way, would you rather him pass away and be in a better place or still alive in pain and not being happy in the world.
So very sorry to hear of your loss.. I felt a great loss when my cat of many years passed on.. I found it helpful to bury him in the backyard with his favorite things and a marker.. It gave me a sense that he was still in the place he loved so much.. It may take a long time to get over loosing your cat, but as each day passes it will get easier. . I won't suggest getting another cat, as you have two other cats.. but I might suggest paying as much attention to your other cats as you can spare, and you might be surprised how affectionate they become.. Often cats and dogs seem to sense when people are hurting, and seem to naturally go to them to give them comfort.. I hope this will happen for you..
I am truly sorry for the loss of your beloved cat Tiger. It's normal to cry a lot after losing a pet that was so close to your heart. Tiger knows how much you loved him.
From: http://www.rainbowbridge.com/poem.htm...
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

sorry 4 your loss. cats have different personalities just like people. only time will help with ur loss but it will eventually get easier,,just keep loving ur other 2 cats

Can Antibiotic ointment be fatal to pets?

My Cat recently acquired an open wound on her back, we figure it was from her crawling under small places and scratching her back on them. She does not go outside, and we have a very clean indoor environment. The other day we found she had scratched it open with her back claws and it was bleeding again. To try to help it heal, we put a small amount of Antibiotic ointment on the wound, thinking it was out of her reach.
Later was saw her licking it off, and tried to stop her before she got it all. We're not sure if she got it all off, because she ran away from us before we caught her to check on it.
Is the ointment dangerous to them? Even though it wasn't that much?
She's been acting unusually lazy today, she's only 6 years old, sleeping alot, and not eating as much as she usually does...could she be sick?!
I'm looking for serious answers, I'm very worried about her, she's like my baby..
Thank you!
Answers:
She could be acting lethargic because the cut on her back may be infected. Having an infection can make you feel pretty crappy. You should have your cat checked by your veterinarian and get proper treatment for her cut. She may have to be on systemic antibiotics if it is bad enough. Good Luck with your kitty, I hope this helps.
What type of antibiotic ointment did you use? Made for animals, or humans?
It might give her an upset tummy, but I do not think most are ''fatal''. Most ointments have labels to tell you whether something is harmful if ingested or not.
may be
aww im sorry about that...call the vet or the medication company
Neosporin says if it is ingested to contact a poison center right away, call the vet tomorrow, as the cat has already eaten it and it is in her system. They may be able to help put your mind at ease
Don't panic cats are fast healers, she is probably tired because her body is fighting of an infection, the ointment wouldn't of been a big issue unless she had quite allot. If you must clean the wound use a warm saline wash its 1Tbsp of salt to 1 pint of water, just rinse it over the wound and its so safe and effective, its what vets use. Otherwise just make sure she is warm and hydrated.
She needs to see a vet. Not so much for the ointment as the cut but be sure and tell the vet both. Human medicines can kill a cat. If the cut is bothering her that much it needs to be seen by a vet.
I would call the vet just in case and ask them if its harmful . they will be able to tell you...
She should be fine as long as you didn't apply any of the ointment to her anus or vagina. Next time test the ointment on a cat that you're not so attached to. Perhaps you have a neighbor w/ a cat that's more like a niece or stepchild to you. The laziness, extended sleep, and loss of appetite sound a lot like textbook cases of having antibiotic ointment applied to her anus and/or vagina.
I am appalled that people feel qualified to give you medical advice over the internet. Last time I checked, it takes 7-8 YEARS of college to become a VET.
The ointment is the least of your problems. Your cat has a wound and is displaying classic signs of infection.
Take your cat to the vet. DO NOT WAIT. This will not heal on its own. Let me give you a common scenario that I see all too often at the hospital I work at. I am not diagnosing your cat, merely sharing advice of what the consequences of waiting could be.
Cat gets bit or scratched from another cat or dirty object. Cat mouths are very dirty and full of bacteria--and yes they can accidentally bite each other while playing. The small wound closes with a scab but the infection builds underneath. Trapped, the discharge has no where to go. The cat opens the wound again, the infection drains, a bigger scab forms and the process starts all over again. Each cycle worsens as the cats immune system slowly starts the downward spiral of a losing battle.
Every once in awhile a owner brings a cat in right away as they notice a wound. We clip and clean it and put the cat on meds. The wound heals, and the owner pays about $100.
But this is rare. Most people wait 2 weeks until the cat is sick with fever, lethargic and dehydrated. They have a raging infection and a huge pocket/abscess that requires surgery and a drain placement. Then the cat is on antibiotics for 2 weeks and after all the charges the owner ends up paying close to $500.
Ignore all the people who told you that your cat was fine. Neosporin is not going to help you. Listen to the people that told you to go to the vet.
It sounds like your cat is very very sick. I am not judging you. I am just trying to help. I hope for your kitty's sake it all works out.
Take care.
PS--many household meds are toxic to cats, even though they are fine for dogs. Check the label of neosporin for acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is extremely toxic, even in small doses.
You can safely use Vasoline for something like that.
A call to any vet can give you an answer--they'd need to know what the chemicals are in the ointment to know if it could harm the cat. But if you only used a small dab, it should be ok.

Can animals sense when you are going to pass away?

I was reading an article about how a kitten could sense when someone in a hospital would die, and she would lay by them until it would happen. Do you think just any animal could sense when you are going to pass away, or just that kitten had that sense?
Answers:
I saw on the news about a cat that would lay with patients in a nursing home who were about to die.
I don't think every animal has this "6th sense," though. It's the same as with how some people can sense things, yet other people cannot. Maybe it's a gift.
Animals are amazing...many pets have even saved their owners from fire by waking them up in time to get out of the house.
i believe that animals have a sixth sense. i actually read an article in which an older ladies poodle for no reason suddenly jumped up and knocked its' body into her left breast. then it started trying to claw the breast.
the woman got a pretty bad bruise from it, so she went to the doctor. it turned out she had a tumor growing in that breast, but they caught it in the early stages and were able to remove it.
sometimes i suspect cats can see ghosts and stuff because they're always looking around when i see nothing.
YES in a senior home there is this cat that is old and whenever someone is about to die she will go lay on there lap she has done this 26 times and has NEVER been wrong
I believe they can sense alot of sicknesses.
They might or they might not. But there is no reason to exagerrate. For example, regarding one of teh replies above, in an elderly house, ppl pass away. And cats love to sit on laps. She might ahve sat in anyone's laps and some of theose people eventually died. If it was the cat of a sports club or boarding school, she would stay on ppl's laps and they wouldnt all die. Cats love to lay and sleep on ppl's beds and laps. This doesnt necesserly means tehy are going to die.
Animals might have a 6th sense though, I dont fight that.
I read about the kitty in the retirement home also...I believe it was on yahoo videos actually. It seems he could sense the death of the patient, and would lay with them to comfort tehm until they passed. It was mentioned that before people pass away, their body emits some odors that cats (and maybe other animals) can pick up, but that humans are not senstive to...

Here is the link to the video. very interesting!

http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=11...
Many animals can sense death coming on...illness as well. Many can detect when a person with epilepsy is about to have a seizure and warn them. From my medical experience, it also seems that many of them can "smell" cancer. It isn't just cats or kittens...I've heard of dogs, birds, horses, and monkeys doing things like this. That's why many of those breeds are actually used as service animals.
That's a good question. I saw that on the news, too. I had a cat that could sense when you didn't feel well so he hung around you more. When my son was sick he'd sit on his lap and lay next to him. Nurse Fluffy. Perhaps there is some kind of scientific explanation, but I'm not a scientist.
Yes I truely believe cats know when something bad is going to happen. When my gma died, one of my cats was lovin all on my dad (which he never does) and they we got the phone call. And my other cat was in her room and just staring at something. Needless to say I had to make him leave the room and close the door cuz he was freakin me out.

Can an animal be a homosexual?

My mother refused to let our neutered male cat out of the house because she thought he would get involved with a gang of homosexual cats who would lead him astray. I"m not making this up. Can an animal be a homosexul?
Answers:
only humans, monkeys and dolphins are actually sexually attracted to the same sex
but other animals can make mistakes (or are just really...)
It happens.
yes
no!! haha!! how??
yeah i think so
lmao if there are homo animals i have no clue what this world is turning into
well humans are animals, so yes. But I don't think an animal other than humans can be.
Yes. Jelly fish are total homos
one time my neighbors dog (male) tried to hump my other dogs (also male) butthole. so maybe.
I'm pretty sure that they can't. But i did notice that when my dog was a puppy he would go after my other dog and be dominant with him. [They were both boy dogs]
so i think if they go after eachother its just instinct but No i dont think an animal can "actually" be a homosexual
Heck yeah... I've seen a few male dogs hump each other.
Many many animals are bi-sexual.
It's no big deal in the non-human animal world.
By the way, bonobos, or a type of Chimpanzee whose DNA is more than 95 percent the same as humans, are the most peaceful and egalitarian apes on the planet because they are bi-sexual.
Everyone has sex with everyone else all the time. It's a way of making sure there are no hard feelings, settling disputes, and keeping competition to a manageable level. If a tree full of fruit is discovered, everyone has sex with everyone else before going up the tree so that the bonobos don't feel in the mood to fight over the fruit.
The bonobos can carry things in their arms while walking on two feet. Males and females have equal status. They're an all around peace loving group.
No- the end goal is survival of the fittest, regardless of being neutered. And you achieve that through reproduction. The result is only natural and instinct.
Most creatures by nature are bi-sexual, so it is normal. :/
Only humans make a big deal out of it. Ect.
And I think that a gang of homo cats is just the most ridiculous thing i have EVER heard, ROTFL.
not likely. probably so, but far rare from humans
thats the wierdest thing i hav eva herd
There are many cases where this has happened.
Allot of the giraffe family are seen to be of the homosexual nature.
No, it's not natural.
The wierdest part is your mom is worried about the sexual morality of your house pet. Anyhow. I've heard about geese basically being homosexual because they where to dumb to tell the difference. Basically, before you can answer the question you have to define homosexuality as an animal would see it. Dog's hump each other all the time but it's a dominance thing. The rest of it deals with mating behaviors, would they be gay if they only went rubbing around on each other once since the species doesn't mate for life anyhow?
no, never. it's only us that think homosexual is natural. homosexual is a disorder and you need to get help, like right now!!.
yes, ive seen it.
No ! That is not in nature's way ! Males will fight males and vise versa !!
Many scientists, and even regular people have observed this behavior. However, it may just be one animals way of showing dominance over another. That's what rapists do. They rape to show dominance, not for pleasure. That's why the elderly are sometimes raped.
Cats, I highly doubt. Frogs, and many amphibians and other lower order animals. Cats respond to the hormones in their body. You fix the cat, you stop the hormones. Cats will become less masculine by getting them fixed though, and therefore will act more feminine by default.
Besides being homosexual is a human thing, not a feline thing.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2005/j...
this is an article from 05'
I once knew a rat terrier that tried with this male cat all the time. He never tried with the female dog. Who knows.!?!
Dogs will however hump any gender to display dominance.
my friend (karlee) her dog had s*x with a male dog dog and hump*ed a female dog so im just guessing yes!
There are documented cases of homosexual behavior being exhibited in animals. Dogs are a prime example [I've seen plenty of male dogs engaging in homosexual behavior]. As do many primates [humans included].
However, such acts will not lead a cat "astray". Such things are foolish to say, even to other humans. Animals do not have a sense of religion, or a heavily followed moral code and thus the human aspect of "Homosexuality is a sin" or "homosexuals are being led astray" will not apply to said animal. Your mother, to put it as lightly as possible, is obsessed with outdated religious beliefs and thinks every living creature should follow such religious beliefs. It's idiotic.
But, your mother is right to keep the cat inside. It is safer inside than it ever would be outside. An outdoor cat is exposed to many dangers, including enemies, cars, parasites and illnesses. Also, outdoor cats can wreak havoc on the local wildlife.
No. Animals have instincts, not attractions. They mate because it's instinctive to do so, not because they want to.
yes, scientist have done research where they studied rats and when there weren't enough females in the cage the extra male rats would turn homosexual

Can Advantage for dogs be used on cats?

I went to the vet today and they gave me Advantage for Dogs to use on my cats. They said it goes longer, 1/2CC for under 10 lbs and 1CC for 10 lbs or over for cats. Is this safe? It is 9.1% imidacloprid.
Answers:
I have posted a link to a website. As you can see in the chart, the answer is a qualified yes. As long as it is Advantage, and not K9Advantix.

Ive used advantage for dogs on my cat as long as your cat or dog is 8 weeks and older , my cat is just fine and i put it on him over a month ago, he has no skin problems or anything. i think they say not too use it on cats so you spend more money though. i only use half a bottle on the cat, just in case its too strong for him, cause there is a lot in there. no fleas YAY.
No it is not safe.read the label on the thing it says keep off of cats and if you put it on a dog the dog shouldn't even have contact with the cats for 12-24 hours. Do not even think about putting that on your cats I would think about getting a new vet with that kind of service!!
NO!! NO!! NO!
I almost killed my cat from a mix-up! Very harmful! VERY! PLEASE DON"T DO IT!
Causes: convulsions and seizures--then Coma, and death! it cost me $350 to save my cat's life and it took her three days to recover from a coma. They had to pump her full of charcoal and saline. She only had a small amount too before my father realized the mistake.
Not worth the risk! Call a differnt vet for a second opionion. Your vet is CRAZY! or just by a flea collar.
Yes it's fine. I'm actually surprised your vet did that, most seem to be more concerned about making money. I buy the doseage for large dogs, and use it on all 3 of my dogs. One is large, but the other 2 are medium, so I split the tube between the 2 smaller ones. Saves a lot of money. If you compare the different sizes of the packages, the medicine dosage in all the sizes is the same amount-regardless if it's for a small dog or large dog it's the same, it's just the tube sizes are different.

Can a vet tell me how old my cat is?

My brother found the sweetest cat last year out in the country and gave him to me. He was neutered and declawed so we think somebody dumped him :( My brother took him to his vet and got him his shots but his vet didn't mention how old he thought he was.
Anyway, he's happy as can be now but I wonder how old he is. If I took him to a vet, do you think they could tell me?
Answers:
Yes they can. The one cat we got was a stray (we think he got kicked out of his house during winter time) and we took him to the vet and gave us an aproximate age of 2 1/2 - 3 years old (we took it as 2 1/2 it made more sense). I don't know how they tell, but they can. The can also do it with dogs and most other animals. Its so nice of you to take in a stray cat. Most cats get left behind and never find a home.
Yes, they should be able to give you a general idea of his age.
A vet should be able to give you a ballpark figure by looking at the tartar build-up %26 wear on his teeth.
Usually. If it's a kitten, it's easier. but with a cat, they can't be 100% sure, but they can give you a pretty good guess, judging by his health. I had a cat who was such a mess (healthwise) that the vet swore he was 5 years older than he actually was.
yes they most deffinatly will be able to they can tell usually by their teeth.
I have 2 cats and the vet should be able to tell the age of a cat by examinig it. you should ask though on the next visit.I also think that they could do blood test for this matter, but ask how much it costs first
Yes, a vet can tell from looking at the age of the cats teeth.

Can a spayed cat get her period?

My cat was spayed by the humane society. Last night her urine had a little bit of blood in it. Could it be her period? Or could it be some kind of urinary problem? She was having trouble going potty yesterday, so it could just be from the strain. I'm worried about her, so please tell me if you know what the problem is. Thanks!
Answers:
First take her to the vet.
Anyway, cats that are spayed cannot get their periods because, first of all, they have heat cycles, not periods. And, they remove the uterus and ovaries.
It could be strain or a urinary tract infection, which is quite common in cats. Take her to the vet and make sure you are giving her good qualty cat food.
Wet:
Whiskas, Fancy Feast, are both good.
Dry:
Premium Edge (personal fav. it's been so good for my cat), Science Diet, and Purina are great.
Use both dry and wet!
Cheap stuff isn't good, it can cause the infection itself! Sometimes it's been known to shorten lifespan. : (
Antibiotics from the vet should get her all better!
have fun with her!
Good luck, hope this helps!
Always,
MeowMeow
Take her to the vet. Your cat might be in pain, and she of course cant communicate that to you. The vet can help her.
Take her to the vet asap sounds like she has a UTI which can lead to more serious problems.
No I dont believe that she can still have a cycle. I would think that she has some kind of infection like a uninary track infection or a kidney infection. I would call a vet just to make sure.
Spayed cats do not "get their period." If there was blood in her urine you need to get her to a vet ASAP! From the sounds of things, she may have a urinary tract infection (common in cats), which needs to be treated. If treatment is started early, most cats fully recover, but if you wait too long (and sometimes a day is too long), the infection can develop into something much more serious (like kidney failure).
Check with the vet. It's not a heat cycle since she has no uterus anymore (cat have heat cycles, no periods - it is very different from humans) - more likely a urinary tract infection following surgery. Antibiotics would clear that up.
No. It might be a urinary tract infection, which is common in cats. Get her to the vet. Are you feeding her a good cat food or something like Alley Cat? Cheap cat foods can cause urinary problems in cats. It can end their lives way too early, too, because of ingredients that aren't good for cats. Stick with Purina or a good cat brand. Ask your vet.
Get her to the vet. This problem can most likely be fixed with a medication but if not treated can become very serious. Don't wait also because sometimes cats that have pain while going to the bathroom associate pain with the litterbox so some cats will then start using parts of your house as their litterbox.
As long as the procedure was done correctly, the cat will not have her period - not possible.
She could have something wrong inside that could be tested simply by a vet, so please call and make an appointment. He/She would know best.
female cats usually do not have period, there must be something wrong which vet can can tell, however blood always bad sign.

Can a spayed cat develop maternal interest in a little kitten?

3 weeks ago, I brought home a 2 day old kitten. His eyes were still closed at that time. I also have another cat, a 5 year old female ragdoll cat who was spayed 4 years ago. Initially, my older cat, Tammy, was rather stressed by the "intruder" and was not eating well for a few days and often hide somewhere away from the screaming kitten. However, after the little kitten opened his eyes and started walking about at about 2 weeks, my older cat started to exhibit strange behaviours towards the new kitten. She started to lick the kitten, especially the ears, whenever she got the chance and most shocking of all, I saw her lick his genitals and when he starts to pee, she drank it all up! Eewwww... I argued with my wife, saying that some maternal instinct probably kicked in but she says spayed cats can't develop maternal instincts coz no hormone production or whatever. What could be going on?
Answers:
Cats are intelligent creatures and it sounds like she is displaying maternal behaviour.
Women who've had hysterectomies and their ovaries removed are still capable of caring for small children aren't they? Why should it be any different for your kitty.
She sounds like a rockin' chick who is taking on a new sense of responsibility in developing this caring relationship with your kitten!
Good for her!
Oh,yes they can show maternal instinct, just like a woman who has had a hysterectomy can! I have seen it many times in both dogs and cats, and even in an intact male beagle, who happened to belong to me! He would nuzzle baby kittens ,lick them, and roll over as if he wanted to nurse them! I have even heard of spayed female dogs and cats producing milk when in the presence of orphaned pups or kittens.I had a neutered male cat and two spayed female cats who exhibited this behavior toward kittens,so yes,it does happen!
The short answer is yes.
We've had lots of cats, many of them fixed and some of the best "mothers" were fixed, they would take care of the kittens even when the real mother didn't seem to want to have anything to do with her own kittens.
If a woman has a hysterectomy, does that mean she couldn't be a loving, caring mother to an orphan? ;)

Can a small dog impregnate a cat?

A friend of mine has this small dog who I think is confused that it's a member of the feline species that it keeps on hounding the cat as if it is the cat's protector or guardian.
One day he heard the cat screaming and discovered the dog is having sex with his cat! My friend knew the dog is successful since it took some time for the dog to disconnect from the cat. Though the dog suffered scratches on its neck and the sides which obviously came from the cat when she was being raped.
So, is it possible for a dog to impregnate the cat?
Answers:
So very sorry to hear about the poor cat. :-(
Im going to have to keep an eye on my dog and cat. My Pomeranian dog, Bailey (male) is always jumping on my male cats back and pinning him, but Jasper (cat-male) doesnt seem to mind too much. He does it in a 'playfight' way, but I think our Bailey is gay. I dont want any accidents like this though. Tell your friend I am sorry
No. Dogs and cats have different numbers of chromosomes, so for the same reason that a dog cannot impregnate a human, a dog cannot impregnate a cat.
Come on... are you serious?
Whoa!
my cat had a catdog once i swear but it died after like an hour i swear it looked like my dog and my cat
emily p is a liar no they can not
no, it's not possible. although, it would probably be pretty cute.
No,they are totally different species.Just like a human couldn't get a sheep pregnant, neither can a dog get a cat pregnant, but you should have both animals fixed,so they can't reproduce and add to the already overwhelming number of unwanted pets.
No its not possible. Dogs do that sometimes but would really recommend that the dog gets fixed.
If the cat is feeling unwell it could mean that she now has a uterine infection. If this develops into closed pyometra her life could be at risk. She obviously needs spaying anyway, so I would get this done as soon as possible.
No, it's not possible. Dogs and cats are two different species. They cannot produce offspring because both the dog and the cat have different amounts of chromosomes in their bodies. Domesticated dogs have a total of 78 chromosomes in their body. Half is from the mother and half is from the father. Cats have a total of 38 chromosomes in their bodies. Again, half from the mother and half from the father. So dogs have 78 chromosomes, while cats have 38. To be able to produce offspring, both animals need to have the same amount of chromosomes.
Noooooooooooooooooo.
Yes and no the cat will have problems the catdog die after death
NO!!
I don't think so because of biology. Even if the cat became pregnant, it would be very unlikely for the baby to survive.
In Biology class (college), the instructor told us that a rat and a cat could not have an offspring together. It is not possible because of DNA.
Its..possible
what you said can not happen
Sorry, but I laughed a little when you said "raped"
Well just for future refrence, there's no such thing as a dat or a cog... or whatever...
And I'm sorry that the kitty passed on.. =(
aww that so sad .. i didnt think they could.
I am so sorry to hear about Lilly :(
please know it was not anyone's fault,
Was it because of the trauma from the dog??
My thoughts are with you and your friend.
no, no and no
Only animals of the same species can have a baby. The order of classifications are kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species. We are labeled by our genus and species:
Homo sapien
A cats is Felis silvestris catus
The dogs is Canis lupus familiaris
This scientifically proves that it is impossible for the dog to impregnate the cat. So don't worry!
I had a female rabbit (who was about 5 months) hump my female cat (3 years). The cat got creeped out, but they didn't get hurt and continued their friendship.
It is just hormones, and no, the cat cannot get pregnant. It is the rules of biology.
I am so sorry about Lily, it is very sad news.

Can a male cat still reproduce for a month or two after being neutered??

Answers:
Nope. When a cat is neutered, they take the whole testicle.
No. No testicles, no sperm, no kittens.
theoretically they may be sperms in the tract above the testes which could be ejaculated - but it is extremely unlikely
Not possible, when neutering a cat they remove the entire testicle, and the sperm cannot survive outside the testicle for more than a few hours. The cat would be completely sterile
can a man reproduce with out his balls?...

Can a male cat produce milk?

We have recently brought in a kitten and she is suckling on our male cat. He seems to have developed larger nipples and seems fatter. Could he be producing milk?
Answers:
No, male cats do not have milk producing glands. The cat's nipples are probably swelling from having the kitten suck on them. (suck on your thumb for a while and see if it swells). However, if does start to produce milk, you will get a lot of money out of that cat! lol
It does seem like it huh? I think male humans produce milk also.
Sure. Males have mammary glands, and constant stimulation releases hormones to the brain which in turns stimulates him to make milk. Men have even been known to lactate.
no

Can a full grown cat survive in the wild?

My girlfriend is moving to the East coast for college, but she can't take her cat with her. The cat's name is Slinky and she really adores it, so I grudgingly agreed to take care of it for her.
Here's the problem: this cat has the most raspy meow I've ever heard, and it coughs all the time. On several occasions, it has kept me awake at night with its coughing and raspy meows. I asked my friend who's training to become a vet to come check the cat out, and it turns out I would need to take it to the vet and pay for surgery to fix the problems it has. Now, I have a lot a things I'd rather spend money on than some stupid cat, so I decided it was time to get rid of it.
I drove out to the woods and hiked a fair distance away from the road. Then I put Slinky up on a tree branch so it couldn't follow me and went home. However, now I'm feeling a little guilty. I know there's no bears in those woods, but coyotes do live there. Do you guys think a cat could survive in the woods like that?
Answers:
CALM! At This MOMENT IT MUST BE In A HOT And SOFT PLACE... INSIDE OF THE STOMACH OF SOME COYOTE...,
Oh my God, how wrong of you! Domestic cats are used to being fed and cared for. You've just doomed the poor cat to starvation, or being killed by another animal, or a vehicle. Please go and try to find it.
Oh my God! You are sooooo cruel. Don't even know why your are asking this as you know you have done a terrible thing. How could you.
No, it's animal cruelty and you what you did is hideous. The cat will die from its health problem or be killed by coyotes or dogs or another wild animal or starve to death.

Get off the computer and try and go find it. If I were your girlfriend I'd dump you and call the police.
You should feel guilty. That was a really horrible thing to do. It is a domesticated cat and a sick one on top of that. Why couldn't you have at least had the decency to take it to a shelter? They could've given it medical care and possibly found it a new home where it would actually be wanted. You make me sick.
that was pretty shitty of you to do
you could have atleast took it to a shelter!!
NO! She/Hes domesticated! GET THAT CAT
As a member of PETA, I hope the cat comes back and scratches your eyes out. You probably just condemned it to death. Nice job.
depending on it's injuries, no. if the cat can't run, then it's surly to get eaten. and there's probably no food for it to eat. so im saying no.
We have a wild cat at home.
We live in the country... we give him water when its hot... but he lives mostly on field mice... and he is healthy as any other cat...
he is huge...like tiger HUGE. and friendly.
Next time take it to the shelter or a vet and have it put down in a humane, respectfull way. If you cant afford an animal, dont get one. Poor thing is out there suffering.
no you probably just killed it because if the cat is a house cat it doesent know how to catch food and it doesent know how to get shelter or fend for itself you should have gave it up for adoption or put it in an animal shelter its probably suffering right now of the sickness it had and it is probably going to suffer and die
no that cat can survive a while, but sorry to tell you this, it wont make it for long. people are always turning dogs and cats loose around here as well. we always find them either so severely starved that they need to be put down, or a raccoon or coyote will get them, not to mention eagles and hawks. but climate may also take its part in killing your cat.
honestly, its cruelty to do this, abandonment, and selfishness. the cat will suffer now, whereas you could have taken it to a shelter. it shows great irresponsibility on your part. domesticated animals rely on us. and for reasons.
Absolutely not!
That cat will have been used to being fed and having a roof over it head. It will have no idea how to look after itself in the wild. Where will it go in bad weather? Where will it sleep, what will it eat, etc.
That cat will most likely be dead within a week. Either wild animals will kill it or it will starve to death.
How incredibly cruel.
And betraying your girlfriends trust like that...Awful.
Go back to that place and see if you can find the cat, and take it to a shelter.
If you didn't want the cat, you should have taken it to a no kill shelter. It was very cruel of you to leave it out in the wild like that. No, he really doesn't have a chance of surviving. I don't know how you can sleep at night.
dont b suprised if the cat shows back up.yes it can survive.coyotes cant climb trees.if i was your girlfriend i would kick u 2 the curb.
There are cats and dogs who live in the wild but most were never domesticated to begin with. I had 2 cats who I let outside who would not come home for days, yet they found food and water somehow. Then again I live in the city, not the wilderness.
That was pretty foolish, leaving a cat in the wilderness. Your cat was domesticated and dependent on humans, unless a miracle happens he's probably not gonna survive.
This is the stupidest thing anyone can do - especially knowing that the cat is SICK for crying out loud. Why not take it to a shelter or a rescue group. Or even a vet - they will find it a home or at least put it to sleep. THe cat is not used to fend for itself outdoors. It will most likely starve, if it doesn't hack itself to death.
You ought to feel guilty, you just scentenced the cat to a slow painful death of starvation.
WOW I've been called cold hearted because i hunt. But man what you did is just wrong. That was the act of a selfish cold hearted sob. She left the cat with you because she loves and trusted you to take care of it. So tell us what happens when she comes for a visit and says wheres the cat. Nice going you had better get used to living a lie if you want to keep her or grow a pair and fess up to the crime and take the punishment. The cat can make it on its own. Chances are it will work its way back some place and be taken in. Cats adapt quickly many hunt smalll birds and game al their lives. None the less there is no excuse for what you did.
I'm referring you to the SPCA. You'll regret you ever done that dumb ***. I suggest you get that cat before the SPCA goto your door, they have your IP ! =]
Sorry to say this, but that was really cruel and thoughtless. it's ok that you don't want the cat, but you didnt have to abandon the cat in the woods. You had to think before you took action. You could of called you GF and tell her that you cant take care of her cat anymore, or you could of have taken the cat to a shelter where he can get adopted.
If you really feel guilty then you should get up and go look for that cat then thik of where to put him.
lmao @ everybody harassing you
Call local animal rescue groups and see if they can help you to trap the cat. Some of the animal rescue groups offer "no kill" policies, you want to talk to them. This was a bad idea. See if you can find Slinky and surrender him to an animal rescue centre. You should be able to catch him in a trap, if not put up posters and see if he's found his way into a nearby neighbourhood.
You dropped your girlfriends cat off to die out in the wild...what a jerk.
Karma will get you one of these days and bite you right in the ***!.
Coyotes kill cats whenever they find them, so yes, you should feel guilty, you put a domestic cat into a wild environment it doesn't know and can't find food or water in, and left it.
If you've got any morals you'll tell your girlfriend what you did and own up to it.
Even better-go back and see if you can find it if it managed to survive the night.
Humane societies and animal shelters are in the phone book of every city--they're the easiest first step to take in rehoming a cat. What were you thinking?
No way!! That cat has been used to being fed and water being in a bowl. It doesn't have the wild instinct to search for water and food. They do hunt mice but only if they see them run past not that they know where to look. Also if they are scared they will hide and not come out to hunt and they will die. Also you left it in a tree? How is it going to survive up there. Don't cats usually get stuck up trees? Do you really think that a cat could take on a coyote? What is your girlfriend going to say when she finds out the cat went missing? I think you shoud get it's favourite food and go and search for this cat. Also I have had the flu for a week and I was keeping my husband awake with my coughing and he didn't dump me in the wild up a tree!! You could at least let the cat sleep somewhere else.

Can a female cat be spayed when she is in heat?

Answers:
yes she can be, but it's generally not recommended, because there are increased risks of complications, such as increased haemorrhage (bleeding) during surgery as her uterus will be more vascularised (uhm, more blood goes to it) while she is in heat. Thus if it's not urgent, then wait a fortnight after her signs of heat, then book her in for a spay. Note that there usually will be increased costs associated ith spaying a queen on heat.
Your local vet will be able to advise you further on this.
apples
yes . but i would wait until she isnt as its not worth the risks which can be involed .
yes, but it costs more, and there is a danger of male cats trying to mount her and damaging her after the surgery.
Yes, they just charge more.
If I were you, I'd just grit my teeth and bear your cats insanity for awhile, and fix her as soon as she goes out of heat. Call your vet and talk to them about it. (Like, how much in advance do you have to make the appointment). I'd say in a week she'll likely be out of heat and you can fix her. Ahhh.. no more heat cycles.. You'll love it!!
You can, but it's safer to fix her when she is not in heat.

Can a female cat be infertile?

I have a cat that I've had since she was 8 weeks old; now she's almost 4 years old. We let her come and go as she pleases, and she's never been pregnant. When we adopted her from the animal shelter, they told us that she hadn't been spayed yet because she was too young, but when she never became pregnant, I took her to the vet and he verified that she had not been spayed. So, I've always assumed that she's infertile, but now I think she might be pregnant. I'm very confused. Any ideas?
Answers:
She might be infertile, chances are very high. Or she is a very smart cat:-) Anyway dont spay her as I'm sure ppl here will rush to advise you. Take care of her and if she is really pregnant this time, make sure babies find good homes. Good luck!
Should go get her spayed. If you got her from the shelter just remember that probably most of those kittens will end up in there and very few will be as lucky as her. Go get her spayed immediately unspayed cats can also contract feline hiv.. it will kill her so dont take a chance on her life or the lives of possible kittens just do the right thing
1. There are no male cats in your neighborhood
2. All the male cats have been neutered.
3. She is not attractive ? She is not attracted to cats.
Well any animal can be infertile humans aren't the only species that can be infertile .
maybe

Can a female cat "not" go into heat?

I have a two year old female that that was the runt of her litter. We have not got her fixed yet since she has been an indoor cat and she has never done the dread "yowl" I remember well from my cat growing up. Well now we live in a townhouse and she has been pushing her way outside. It is time to get her fixed. But what I would like to know, she has never shown any signs of being in heat. She is also very anti social and doesn't like people. Could she just not be going through heat or just shy away for us not to notice because of her social anxiety. Also, can a cat spontaneously go into heat when outside or is it in a cycle?
Answers:
Cats are pretty sneaky about a heat cycle, especially if they are also shy cats anyway. Dogs have a much more obvious discharge... it's easy to miss a cat's cycle... that's how so many people end up with OOPS! litters. A friend of mine never noticed her cat in heat but wondered why every so often the cat peed in her laundry and hung out at the windows and doors. I told her she was probably in heat, and her vet confirmed it. They can come in as often as once a month, depending on the cat, and they can become pregnant again while still nursing a litter. Cats are REALLY prolific! I would get her spayed ASAP so you don't have the responsibility of placing kittens. Most shelters are absolutely overrun with cats and many now refuse to take them. I rescue street cats and after I've placed cats with everyone I know (and many live with me!), I've run out of places too, and it kills me to see them sick and on the streets. Unwanted kittens are so easy to prevent, and your kitty will be much happier and calmer! Did you know that queens (female cats) that keep cycling and don't get bred can even get sick?
I had to get mine fixed she was in heat every other week whining out loud and late at nite, she kept wrecking my blinds to try to get in the windows.I would say just get her fixed and you will never have to worry about it again,They help you if your on a fixed income, they pay for it.And now mine has all her rabies shots and the chip.Shes a much better cat to.
Unless there is an underlying medical condition, female cats go into heat in cycles. Typically, the cat wanting or getting outside is an indication that she is already in heat. I'm sure your cat has had her heat cycle before, it just went unnoticed.
Some human girls have very painful periods. I only have minor discomfort my first night. Some girls' periods last a week, mine are usually only 4 days. Some girls have a heavy flow.. other's dont.
Point is, everyone's periods are different. Same with cats.
Some cats go in heat, but don't desplay the excessive vocalizations and behaviors that others do.
Does NOT mean your cat hasn't been in heat.
Cats can go in the heat....i think?
i needed two points
=]
Some girls have "silent heats". I have had two breeding girls like this. Yes, they eventually go into heat and become very responsive to a boy when there is one available to them. Your girl will become social with the humans in her life when she is not dealing with invisible hormones.
Female Cats and Kittens, that aren't spayed go into heating, seeking a mate to have babies with. This process involves meowing loudly, moving about alot, and getting excited when a male approches.
The only way to prevent this is to get your cat/kitten spayed. This can be done by your local vet.Unless you want babies,I suggest you get your cat spayed.

Can a Devon Rex be happy as the only pet in an apartment?

I'm thinking of getting a cat and like the Devon Rex. I have done extensive research on the internet and even talked to some breeders. The cat would be alone in the apartment during the day while I'm at work. I have read they don't always like to be alone and can even be bored and destructive if alone too much. Having two cats would be too much I feel. The apartment also has a balcony. Could this be a problem for a curious Devon? Any other advice I should consider?
Answers:
Go to the animal shelter and adopt two kittens from the same litter. They will keep each other company while you are at work. You will also be able to give a home to these animals who might otherwise be put to sleep if nobody adopts them.
I like what the previous poster said, but I'd say to adopt two adult cats from the shelter. Adult cats have a MUCH HARDER time getting placed, and also, with an adult, you know the personality.

Can a clawed cat be trained not to tear up the rugs and furniture?

I used to have a cat, but haven't since I bought a house and completely remodeled it. Now the house is done, and I'd like to get a cat again. I don't like the idea of de-clawing - I think it's cruel. But, I now have expensive furniture in the house and also 2 very expensive antique persian rugs.
How is a clawed cat trained not to scratch/claw these things. I've always had problems in the past with this.
Answers:
Believe it or not, your feline friends have more intelligence than your canine ones do and can learn more tricks faster than a dog can. That is a proven fact. I also can attest to that since I can train my two cats to do the same things my brother is training his two dogs to do and they learn it quicker and master it faster than the dogs.
To train a cat to scratch where they should, you need to either take a vacation for a week or make sure that your feline friend has his own room and is locked in it when you are not in the same area with him/her. Cats love to scratch and they love best to scratch things above where then can elongate their bodies. They also prefer natural things to scratch more than man made ones but use what they are given or can find if the real macoy isn't available. Be sure to have at least one Condo (cat climber) in each room the cat is allowed it or at least in an area that is close to a double room like living/dining area or dining/kitchen area. Make sure it is at least 5 to 6 feet high or higher and their is at least 1 long pole/post that has either natural wood or natural twine rope on it. They are making them that way now all the time. Also, get yourself a thick all natural twine/tweed foot wiping mat from your department store or rug shop. Be sure that it is not flimsy but a good tight weave. A lot of cats prefer to scratch in a standing down position rather than a standing up stretched position. This way, you can allow your cat to choose. I have one cat that does the rug and the other that does the poles. Put catnip on the mat and rub it onto the poles so that the smell is there more than the actual catnip itself. This encourages them to go to that area. Cats naturally scratch so you do not have to do the motion of scratching with them like you would a dog. Cats also love treats and since they are obligate carnavoirs, (all meat eaters), the best treat is a piece of plain cooked all natural meat in a small portion with no spices on it. You can make these yourself and keep them in the freezer with the meat you are having for dinner but do not use seafood or beef. Beef tends to be a harsh meat on the cats intestines and seafood isn't good for them. It isn't their normal food if they were in the wild and cats do not fish, they hunt. Chicken, duck, turkey, venison, are all good choices. When you get ready to prepare this for yourself, take some and put it into a pan of water and cook it just until it is done. Break it into tiny pieces and freeze them in ziploc freezer bags. You can take out what you need and keep it in the refridgerator or nuke it for a few seconds until it thaws and use it for treats. Now, keep an eye on your cat. Whenever it does something you like it to do, praise it (always using the same praise so they get the message and learn that praise), like 'good kitty' or 'good boy', etc. and immediately give the treat. Whenever they do not do what you want them to do, use a very stern voice and command and the best one is to pick a sound that you would not use whenever you talked to a human. For example, never use the word NO since you also use that with humans and if they hear the word NO they may take it as a 'bad' thing they are doing when all they are doing is a good thing. That will confuse them in the long run and prolong their training. I use ehhh! ehhh! ehhh! very loudly and in a different tone than my normal voice. I only use it when it is absolutely necessary and they know it means they are in trouble now. I had both these cats trained to the scratching post and rug in a week while they were still less than 3 months old. Now, I still praise them for stratching in the right places several times a week just to reinstate that they are good boys and give them treats too every so often but they just scratch there because it is habit now. I've trained them to stay off things they aren't allowed on and even stay out of places they shouldn't be in as well as they know a lot of commands for only being a year old. They can sit, stay, lay down, fetch, jump up, jump over, roll over and also play games like peek a boo, hide and seek and my favorite one is red light, green light, a game I liked as a kid. My younger one plays bat and ball and ping pong ball too. Of course he play with his paw but he can hit 7 out of 10 back to me. Training a cat is not different than training a baby. You have to use lots of love and patience and repetition. One thing to remember though with animals, is that you need to think like them to have success. An animal does not look at you as a human. They look at you as the 'leader of the pack' and they will constantly rival for taking over the leadership of the pack. No matter what game you play with them or what you are teaching them, never let them win in the end. If you are holding a toy on a string and they grab it with their teeth and pull, make sure that you allow them to pull it because that teaches them their skills, just never let them get the whole thing and run with it unless you chase them and get it back. The more they win, the less you will have control over them. House pets can have a lot of fun in this type of discipline and you can have lots of fun teaching them but through it all, you are still the leader of the pack and not their owner. Good luck.
Yes you buy a scatching post and teach it to scratch that and not the carpet/rugs/furniture.
Have a couple cat scratchers around and sprinkle cat nip on them. If you see them start to use your couch, redirect them to the cat scratcher. Some cat's never have that issue. I had one that did and one that didn't.
YAY! u r a VERY good person for choosing not to declaw ur kitty. i had this prob too, but i went online, and the areas that ur cat can reach on these valuable items, u should like put strips of foil, and when the cat goes to claw these items, the foil will annoy it, and it will learn that it does not like to claw these items, and once it gives up clawing on them, u may remove the foil. (i noe, the i dea of foiled furniture is odd, but it works)
You can give it more attractive alternatives, but I don't think you can "train" a cat for things like that. Not any cat I've known.
The other posters are right. Put out more attractive alternatives.
Try softpaws, you can get them at petsmart or at the link posted below.
Thats tough because its a natural behavior for cats. You can try Soft Paws. Its a product which you glue over the nails. You can do it yourself and it won't shred the furniture. Just make sure you don't trim the nails too short since the super glue needs something to hold on to. Yes super glue. Thats what we use at the vet clinic where I work at. They come in different colors as well.
You put sticky tape on or by the areas you don't want the cat to scratch and squirt her with water if you see her scratch those things. Get scratching posts and praise the kitty when you see her use them.
There are covers that you can buy to place over the cats nails, if you want to be bothered with it. One of my cats came declawed from the pound, the other has claws. I take the clawed one every week and pop her claws out and trim them down with clippers, but she is a very mellow and cooperative cat. Other than that, it's very, very hard to train kitties. Try getting a scratching post that smells like catnip so the cat will be encouraged to use that instead of your things. I attached a link to the claw covers.
I've had cats my whole life and they have all been declawed and none have ever been traumatized as they say happens when you declaw them. I have the happiest cats in the world. You just have to keep them in the house. It make them nicer if it does anything to their personality.
I got 2 cats. And they both know how to use da scathing post.all u got 2 do is show it 2 them. After a while they'll know not 2 scracth the rugs but the scratching post.
My cat has never scratched the furniture because I got her declawed and it did not do anything to her personality and she is the sweetest cat and it did not do anything to her. She is a very happy cat.
